The Hyperion Saxophone Quartet is the premiere chamber ensemble at Cal State Fullerton. Focusing on commissioning and performing new works for saxophone quartet, the Hyperion Saxophone Quartet actively works with composers to craft unique works of art, in addition to collaborating with composers on how to fully take advantage of the unique sonic textures of the saxophone quartet. Members of the Hyperion Saxophone Quartet also create their own works for the ensemble, specifically Joseph David Spence, an emerging composer on the scoring stage as well as in the concert hall, and Steven Ragsdale, who’s compositions and arrangements of jazz music range from standards of the great American Songbook, to fresh and new styles of modern jazz. Off the stage, the Hyperion Saxophone Quartet makes it a point to work in the community by mentoring students in order to provide an example for young musicians and cultivate a passion for music and life in today’s youth. Having already performed for and lead a masterclass at Diamond Bar High School and performed several times at the Emerald Court Senior Living in Anaheim, the Hyperion Saxophone Quartet looks for any way that their music can educate, entertain, or lift the spirits in service to the community. Don’t miss out on this exciting, unique, and dynamic ensemble!
