Overview

Hello! I'm Hannah, a recent graduate from the Master of Music program at the Juilliard School. Alongside more formal concertizing, I perform at weddings, receptions, corporate events, and many other venues around New York City and enjoy exploring different genres of music alongside classical repertoire. I have lots of experience arranging pop and rock song requests and can put together larger ensembles such as a string duos, string trios, or quartets consisting of graduates from top conservatories around the country. I would love to work alongside you to craft the perfect musical program for your event!

You made my day so special!

I had the pleasure of having Hannah play at my engagement event, and her performance was absolutely beautiful. She played the cello with such grace and skill, creating a truly magical atmosphere. It was wonderful to have her be a part of our special day. I highly recommend her to anyone looking for an exceptional cellist!

Your search ends here! Hannah is amazing!

Hannah was so communicative throughout my booking her to surprise my wife of 15 years with an intimate little gig with a couple friends. She renditioned our wedding song, amongst a couple of other meaningful melodies, into such beautiful music. There were tears of joy! Hannah is very, very, very talented musician and a kind soul!

You 'knocked it out of the park' Hannah! Thank you so very much!

Highly Recommend Working with Hannah

We had the pleasure of working with Hannah last year for our wedding in NYC. We were initially looking for a cellist to play during our ceremony, which is how we were connected with Hannah. We had picked some non-traditional music (Radiohead, the Pixies, The Black Keys :) and Hannah was completely on-board and excited to make it happen for us. Together we decided that due to the music, it would be good to put an ensemble together. Hannah brought together an amazing group of musicians and we couldn't have been happier with how everything turned out. Hannah was lovely to work with all around!

Would Highly Recommend for Special Events

I wanted a cellist at our wedding ceremony but I hadn’t prioritized it throughout planning. About 4-5 weeks before I decided to try and find one. A friend had recommended that I post on a local forum for the music school and Hannah responded to the post. Having little knowledge about what was possible to play, she was able to make some recommendations and was also able to learn two songs that I requested. My mom coordinated the day of to make sure Hannah was all set and it was one of the easiest experiences. I thank Hannah for making our day so special and fulfilling a wishlist item when I didn’t think I would.

About

Hannah Rubin is establishing herself as an avid collaborator, soloist, and mentor based in New York City, though her musical endeavors span across the US and Europe. She has performed solo and in chamber groups on stages from the Kennedy Center in D.C. and Carnegie Hall in New York to Hallgrímskirkja in Reykjavik and Troldhaugen in Norway, and has participated in masterclasses with Claudio Bohòrquez, Frans Helmerson, Gary Hoffman, and the Schumann, Jupiter, and St. Lawrence quartets.
This summer, Hannah is returning as a fellow to the Ravinia Steans Music Institute, performing multiple chamber works including the festival premiere of Juantio Becenti’s Divertimento No. 4 for Piano Quartet alongside Midori. She has also had the privilege of attending the IMS Prussia Cove masterclasses, Kneisel Hall Chamber Music Festival, Heifetz Institute, Bowdoin International Music Festival, Tanglewood Institute, Castleman Quartet Program, and more.
Along with studying the more standard eras of classical repertoire, Hannah enjoys exploring music from the early baroque period on baroque cello and has worked with living composers such as Jörg Widmann, Ellen Taafe Zwilich, Alex Berko, and Cheng Jin Koh on some more recent compositions.
Since coming to New York, Hannah has continued to expand her passion for music outreach by spearheading multiple projects and grants funded through the Juilliard School, including an ongoing partnership between her string trio, YongArts, and the Montefiore Medical Center located in the Bronx. YongArts would love to expand their program even further in order to provide as many concerts as possible to fill the numerous waiting rooms across the hospital’s complexes.
While pursuing her master’s degree at the Juilliard School with Professor Timothy Eddy, Hannah was a Grand Prizewinner of the Irvine Conservatory International Competition and a prizewinner of the 2023 Eastern Connecticut Symphony Orchestra Instrumental Competition. Her undergraduate studies were completed at the Eastman School of Music with professors Steven Doane and Rosemary Elliott, where she received both a Bachelor of Music and Performer’s Certificate in Cello Performance and a Bachelor of Arts in Biology.
She is looking forward to continuing her studies in the Doctor of Musical Arts program at the City University of New York Graduate Center under the tutelage of Mark Steinberg while growing her own private music studio. Hannah loves to spend her free time reading, playing soccer, and cat-sitting in various apartments throughout the city.
