Overview

In a addition to a vast memorized repertoire of classical solo pieces for cello I also sing original and cover songs accompanied only by my cello. Depending on the occasion I can tailor my performances across a wide spectrum from Baroque to contemporary, from Johann Sebastion Bach to Jimi Hendrix. I play all of the Bach Suites for solo cello as well as numerous other works such as the meditation from Thais of Massanet and the Rachmaninoff Vocalise all by heart. If more contemporary things are called for Jimi Hendrix's Little Wing and Dylan's Simple Twist of Fate are examples of the type songs I can work in. Adjustments can be made on the fly as well. I look forward to your event!

Peter brought so much joy and beauty to our wedding

My husband and I were so lucky to have Peter perform at our wedding at Central Park. He was extremely easy to communicate with, super friendly and so much fun! He shared with me in advance a wide selection of songs he has performed at previous events and helped me find the perfect cello pieces (e.g. Bach) for our wedding. His music was amazing and it blended perfectly with the flow of the ceremony and the beautiful surroundings. We received numerous compliments from our guests about Peter's performance!! About

Cellist Peter Lewy has worked on stage and in the recording studio with hundreds of recording artists, from folkies like The Roches, Frank Tedesso and David Massengill all the way to rockers like Nada Surf, Neon Leon and Mark Johnson. He has also collaborated extensively with artists like Jazz legends Jaco Pastorius and Bucky Pizzerelli and Indian sarod virtuoso Vasant Rai. He has performed for thousands from the Clearwater festival to such diverse clubs as The Bottom Line, The Blue Note and CBGB's. Peter's music has been heard on radio stations throughout the world. His classical credits include serving as principal cellist and concerto soloist with several NYC metropolitan orchestras in addition to numerous recital and chamber music appearances including at Lincoln Center. In 2006 his highly personal interpretations of the Bach Suites for Unaccompanied Cello were praised by pianist Maurizio Pollini. His latest release "Some Other Way" (2012) features the cellist as singer/songwriter and features 3 original songs as well as classic songs by singer/songwriters he has worked with and Hendrix, Dylan and others. In addition it also includes some signature instrumentals. Follow this unusual artist down a road less traveled. Enjoy!
