While pop and glam were the sounds at the time when he was young, Donnie took an interest in earlier Rock and Roll such as The Rolling Stones, The Beatles, Roy Orbison, Buddy Holly and the Beach Boys followed by Motown and Doo Wop as well. But it wasn’t until after seeing Guns n Roses on MTV that he discovered a love for drums.

Though self taught in his earlier years, Morris attended West Virginia University for Percussion Performance. Studying drum set, timpani, marimba, steel drums and piano. Various teachers introduced him to drummers like Ziggaboo Moldeste of The Meters, Clyde Stubblefield from James Brown, David Garibaldi, Steve Gadd, Dave Weckyl and Mike Clark.

Donnie has played in acts ranging from Ska to Country genres, opening stages for The Toasters, Reel Big Fish, The Pilfers, The Pie Tasters, Less Than Jake, Dishwalla, Eve 6, Kenny Chesney, Tim McGraw, Jason Aldean, Zac Brown Band, Phil Vassar, Craig Morgan, Diamond Rio, Marc Wills, Jamey Johnson, Colt Ford, David Nail, Toby Keith and Joe Dee Masina.
