Derek is a Graduate of CU Boulder's Music program and is a composer and performer on classical and steel string guitar. He specializes in composing and arranging music for solo guitar and will take requests for song arrangements. Having performed at numerous weddings, events and venues. Derek is quite experienced in guitar performance. He has his own portable sound system and will travel to your event. Derek is always the consummate professional, so awe-inspiring, beautiful music is guaranteed anytime he performs.
I've had Derek perform at various summer events for me over the years and he has always been a delight to work with. His skill is spot-on and his passion for music is highlighted in all his performances. You don't see this level of talent come along very often. I would highly, highly recommend him.
Derek tailors his music to fit your needs and in my particular event, he learned several new songs just for the occasion. One elderly couple asked if he knew a particular song that she and her husband enjoyed, and on his break, he stepped away, listened to it on You Tube, and came back in 20 min and played it for them. They were over-the-moon excited.
I can't wait to hire him back again this summer. This guy is driven to excel like Jimi Hendrix. Seriously. He's going to be really big someday. Book him while you can!

SynthDef / Derek DeMuth - Biography
Imagine a world without boundaries. Revolutionary ideas are the norm, fantastic inventions are bred and evolve just like life forms, creativity flows through everything, paradox exists in its strongest, and all barriers are transcended.
Welcome to the world of SynthDef. SynthDef means synthesis definition. It is an aggregate of diverse musical styles and disciplines, from classical to classic rock, popular music as well as obscure, new and old, far and near, acoustic and electronic. This paradigm of synthesis is one that blurs the boundaries between opposites; this blending of elements makes the whole larger than the sum of its parts.
SynthDef is a prolific music producer/composer, classical/electric guitar player, and polymath. His favorite instrumental mediums are classical guitar, electric guitar and digitally created music, such as EDM and Electronica. The common thread in all of these passions is a songwriting and composition style unto itself. Synth enjoys writing for guitar or producing a tune in a way that is unexpected, yet enjoyable. He is constantly expanding his creative endeavors and always interested in finding new ways to create and manipulate music. Anything can become sound and sound can become everything.
SynthDef performs in the Denver/Boulder area and is well known at many venues for his guitar playing and EDM, such as:
The Dairy Center for the Arts
Johnny's Martini Bar
The Laughing Goat
Boulder Classical Guitar Society
The Oriental Theater
The Walnut Room
The theme of synthesis includes the aspect of improvisation, which is an art not entirely forgotten in the realm of music performance. He is working to bring this skill of transience into the foreground of performance. A hand-painted Gibson Electric guitar and Synthesizers (via an Ableton Push) are his two favorite improvisation and performance instruments.
SynthDef studied music at Colorado University, Boulder and obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Music and also a Music Technology Certificate. He provides private guitar lessons in addition to being a freelance musician/performer and recently released an EP called ¡Sigils! (a collection of his most esoteric/danceable EDM work). He has also recorded and produced a solo classical guitar album called “Metaphysics,” which is a collection of his original compositions.
