Derek A. Spencer

Growing up, Derek never saw himself as an artist of any type, but saw his life as an opportunity to worship God in everyday actions. At a young age he knew he was called of God, but didn’t know what he was called to do. While continuing to pray, Derek told God, “Whatever it may be or wherever you want me to go, I will go.” God starting opening doors, and as they opened, Derek went through them.

In 2012, Derek Spencer attended a church youth camp and participated in a talent show with his good friend at the time, Nathan Brown. Both of them enjoyed Christian Hip-Hop, but neither of them had written anything, so they decided to perform the song Robot by Trip Lee

They ended up winning the talent show and it motivated them both to start pursuing music as their passion. As time went on, through different life events, Derek Spencer started writing music on his own.

In 2014, Derek Spencer released his first mixtape called New Start on January 1st. It featured many great “starting” songs for the young artist including “Who I Be”, “I Need You” and “Have It All.” Derek was out of his comfort zone trying to start doing Hip-Hop while people doubted if he even could write his own music, but Derek continued to pursue the passion that God had placed inside of him. He just wanted to impact people in a way that they could see Christ through his lyrics, for instance,

In 2014, Derek Spencer released his second mixtape later that year called Mindless Matters on October 25th. Derek started growing as a person and maturing musically while also spiritually. It featured songs including “Famous” that featured Spoken Word and Blizz, “One Thing” and “Look At Me Now.”

In 2016, Derek Spencer released his third mixtape called Unspoken on February 13th. Derek is now more confident than ever in His God and believes that he is ready to speak the unspoken as God has called him to do. It features songs including “Live It Up”, “Hourglass”, and “Unspoken”.

Everyday Derek Spencer is striving to live a life that will impact and give the people around him a restoration for hope and a reason to live; that reason for living is only found in Jesus Christ.
