What to expect

David Wade & Black Mountain is a traditional bluegrass quartet rooted in rich harmonies, driving rhythms, and timeless mountain soul. Featuring guitar, banjo, mandolin, and upright bass, we blend heartfelt originals with high-energy renditions of bluegrass standards.

About

David Wade & Black Mountain is rooted in the foothills of Central Virginia, where the timeless sounds of bluegrass and Appalachian tradition run deep. Blending heartfelt originals, high-energy pickin’, and soulful harmonies, we bring a fresh voice to classic roots music.

Drawing inspiration from mountain trails, front porch jams, and the enduring spirit of American folk, our music pays homage to the past while forging new ground. Whether it's a driving instrumental, a tender ballad, or a foot-stomping singalong, our sets are crafted with that old timey type of music.

We’re proud to share our sound with audiences near and far. Check out our music, get to know the band, and find out where we’re playing next.

Additional booking notes

David Wade & Black Mountain is a four-piece acoustic band (guitar, mandolin, banjo, upright bass). We perform fully acoustic or amplified depending on the needs of the event. We provide all necessary instruments and can supply a complete PA system upon request.

We require access to power only if amplification or PA is needed. Otherwise, we are fully capable of performing “unplugged” for intimate or rustic settings.

Set list

Our live show blends energetic bluegrass, heartfelt originals, and familiar favorites from the traditional repertoire. A typical set may include classics like Nine Pound Hammer, Salt Creek, Shady Grove, Big Sciota, Long Journey Home, Old Home Place, Angel Band, Clinch Mountain Backstep, Wildwood Flower, Man of Constant Sorrow, Lonesome Road Blues, Red Haired Boy, and Little Maggie.

We also perform a rotating mix of driving instrumentals, tender ballads, gospel numbers, and audience-friendly singalongs, along with a selection of original songs written by David Wade. Our set lists can be tailored for weddings, private events, breweries, festivals, or any venue looking for an authentic bluegrass experience.

Influences and inspiration

Our sound is shaped by the greats of traditional and modern bluegrass. We draw inspiration from Bill Monroe, Flatt & Scruggs, The Stanley Brothers, Jim & Jesse, The Osborne Brothers, The Seldom Scene, The Country Gentlemen, Tony Rice, Norman Blake, Doc Watson, Alison Krauss & Union Station, J.D. Crowe & The New South, Hot Rize, Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver, The Johnson Mountain Boys, and contemporary artists like Billy Strings and Nickel Creek. We blend these influences with our own Central Virginia roots to create a sound that honors tradition while carving out something new.
