Overview

Colton Lane is a Texas-born songwriter, recording artist, producer and multi-instrumentalist. A Texas A&M graduate, Lane founded Left Lane Records and Left Lane Publishing to release and own his work. He writes, arranges, records and produces his own music, playing guitar, piano, bass and drums. His catalog ranges from stripped-down songwriting to full-band American rock, with “All Grown Up” opening his current run of releases in 2026. Lane is also the founder of Leslie’s Laces, the nationwide nonprofit he created in honor of his late mother, Leslie, providing new name-brand school shoes to children across the United States.

About

Colton Lane started making records before he was old enough to know what a music career was supposed to look like. At 16, while other students used a school-approved day to tour colleges, Lane and a bandmate rushed through a junior-college visit so they could drive to Rosewood Recording Studio in Tyler, Texas and see a real studio instead. By 18, he had recorded an independent acoustic album, ordered 100 CDs and sold every copy himself.

The Texas-born songwriter went on to spend more than a decade writing, recording and performing across the state. He became a finalist in Texas songwriting competitions, performed at venues including The Blue Light Live in Lubbock, and at 21 opened for Whiskey Myers in his hometown. But the most important education happened away from the stage. Lane taught himself guitar, piano, bass, drums, recording, arranging and production largely by ear, eventually building a studio of his own and learning to take a song from the first idea through the finished record.

That independence now defines Colton Lane as an artist. Rather than fitting neatly into traditional country or rock, his records carry Texas roots, heartland weight and the melodic instincts of the rock and alternative records that shaped him. He writes the songs, plays the instruments, builds the arrangements and produces the records himself—the kind of authorship that allows the finished music to sound unmistakably connected to the person who made it.

Lane’s music sits in the tradition of American rock and songwriting where character, place and real life matter as much as hooks. His Texas upbringing remains audible in his voice, while his songwriting carries some of the heartland scale associated with Bruce Springsteen and the melodic accessibility of the radio-rock era that shaped him.

In 2026, Lane released “All Grown Up,” a full-band American rock record he built, performed, mixed and refined himself over roughly 88 days. The song opened the current chapter of his catalog and introduced a sound informed by the classic radio-rock lineage of artists like Sheryl Crow, Alanis Morissette, Gavin DeGraw and Matchbox Twenty without losing the Texas voice underneath it.

“All Grown Up” also unexpectedly connected Lane’s music to another part of his life. A pledge to donate $1 for every stream toward buying new school shoes for children grew into Leslie’s Laces, the nationwide nonprofit initiative founded in honor of his late mother, Leslie. What began as an effort to help children around his East Texas hometown quickly grew far beyond it.

Today, Colton Lane is building the next body of work from Texas under his own Left Lane Records—still writing, playing and producing the records himself, just as he has been trying to do since he was a teenager figuring out how to get inside a recording studio in the first place.
