What to expect
Every event is different, but I usually play a lot of recognizable marches and airs like Scotland the Brave and Amazing Grace. We’ll talk through the exact details of your event on the phone ahead of time, and you can let me know if you have any special requests then.
If you know your event calls for a bagpiper but you aren’t sure exactly what to ask for, the following are “standard” requests:
- Funerals (Church + Graveside): I play for about 10 minutes outside as friends + family exit the church, accompany the group to the cemetery, and play Amazing Grace at the close of the graveside service (~$300)
- Funerals (Graveside Only): I play as friends + family arrive at the cemetery, and play Amazing Grace at the close of the graveside service (~$300)
- Weddings: I play as friends + family arrive at the ceremony location, plus recessional (if desired) / receiving line / walk to cocktail hour (~$400)
- Weddings (2 pipers): See above — plus, I bring a second piper (~$700)
- Any Event (2 pipers + snare drummer): See above — plus, we bring a drummer (~$900)
- Any Event (Mini-Band): 2 pipers, a snare drummer, a tenor drummer, and a bass drummer — a bright, inspiring, + energizing ensemble (starts at ~$1250, + ~$250 per additional piper)
Rates are subject to adjustment based on travel requirements and other miscellaneous variables. Just reach out with some info about your event, and I will provide a clear, final quote to you in writing!
PLEASE NOTE — I do not accept the following gigs, but would be happy to help find a substitute:
- House parties where I’m being hired as a solo musician (but I’m open to playing with some other pipers and/or drummers!)
- Weddings where the bagpipes are a surprise to the bride + groom (cute idea, but logistically complicated)
- With rare exceptions, gigs that are scheduled between 9am and 5pm, Monday through Friday (my corporate job takes priority)
About
I’ve been playing the highland pipes since I was 13 years old. In that time, I’ve performed at so many different kinds of gatherings: weddings, sporting events, birthday parties, graduations, parades, music festivals, volunteer concerts, funerals, and more. Outside of gigs, I’m a member of a competitive pipe band, where I also volunteer as a piping instructor to keep the tradition alive.
Additional booking notes
The bagpipes are LOUD. If your event isn’t being held outdoors or at a large indoor venue (e.g. a church, theater, ballroom, or other spacious hall), the volume may make your guests uncomfortable. If you’re unsure whether your venue is a good fit, reach out — I’ll provide my honest opinion.
