Music, She Wrote Festival 2023

Overview

I am a classically trained cellist with a diverse array of musical passions! I love performing classical repertoire for stylish, elegant events. I also love performing pop covers of my favourite contemporary music! I use a loop pedals and can create sonic landscapes that offer the illusion of a full string quartet! I also write my own music that attempts to capture the beauty of the human experience by intertwining soaring melodies with satisfying and emotionally rich harmonies.

What to expect

I am versatile! I can cater to your specific cello needs. I can play solo or with my loop pedals if you would like a fuller sound. I can take requests for songs/genres making sure you receive exactly the right vibe for your event. My specialities are classical and pop but I am open to anything.

About

Ceridwen McCooey is an Australian cellist and composer based in New York. She writes music that draws on classical traditions, combining it with the freedom of improvisation to create a fresh and unique sound. Her solo practice involves electronically looping layers of cello to create strong narratives with character developments and emotional depth. Ceridwen has a “unique touch and handles her instrument like few people do.” (Mes Enceintes Font Défaut)

In early 2021, Ceridwen released her debut album The Conference of the Birds with New York-based label RHODIUM. Over the course of her young career, she has been commissioned by Music She Wrote festival and Arts Centre Melbourne and in 2023 was invited to curate a show at Play On Music in Collingwood House. Ceridwen was named a Dots and Loops Performance Fellow and has received first prize in both the Allan Zavod Performers award and 3MBS The Talent competition. Ceridwen feels fortunate to have been selected for composer development programs with The Australian Art Orchestra, Ensemble Offspring, and Flinders Quartet.

Additional booking notes

I can play acoustic but if I am playing with the loop pedals then I require a PA system. A lot of venues have one already.
