She sang at a friends wedding and did beautifully. She is also a friend but I

Smooth and Earthy performances with a Happy Heart!

Candace has an incrediby smooth and rich voice that is such a pleasure to experience. She puts her heart and soul in each song and makes it come alive! This is a woman who is in her element when performing for a live audience. She illuminates happiness through her voice, smile and movement and has incredible delivery of each song performed! You can't help but smile and want to move or dance as you listen and watch her perform! Jazz and Soul are given justice and flow so gracefully from this fantastic lady!

Candace: The Musical Feast

If Candace's style were a 'musical-recipe' it would be comprised of: a good amount of Jazz (all styles), a generous helping of funk,a big dollop of R & B, a liberal amount of Soul,a dash of jazzy-rock and most of all pure heart-felt poetry of the spirit! Candace's music nourishes that hunger we all have for exceptional music and we come away feeling well fed with the variety of musical stylings she serves up. Never the same offerings, each new venue offers another helping of delicious music we can savor and enjoy. I am always eager to indulge in her latest melodic concoction's…just plain delectable!!!

I had the opportunity to hear Candace Freeman sing at a local club/lounge earlier this year (2010). She did about a 30 minute set and she was terrific. The typical lounge noise quieted down as everyone listened to her sing. What a beautiful voice. She also established a great rapport with the audience and had everyone grooving to her music. She was quite the entertainer!

Review by David D.

As we entered the venue for a fundraising dinner/murder mystery role playing event titled 'Murder On The High Seas' we were thrilled to discover that Candace had been booked to portray the ship's lounge entertainment. Having seen Candace perform at other local spots we knew we were in for a treat. Well....she surpassed our expectations. Her sultry voice quelled the dinner chatter and the passion infused voice wrapped in a sexy gown of jazz got the place on their feet. Even though she is one of the few that has her own vocal quality, if I were to compare her to anyone it would be Sade. Being the president of a local non-profit I know I will be booking Candace for upcoming fund raising events, no question about that!!!! My suggestion is for you to utilize her talents for your event while she is still available to do them. I guarntee she will be a shooting star very soon.

About

Candace Freeman Brown is a unique and dynamic vocalist from Bakersfield whose style is influenced by the music listened to growing up which included jazz, classic soul, classic rock, funk and even classical music. Growing up she loved the music of Stevie Wonder, Chaka Khan, Steely Dan, and various fusion jazz artists such as David Sanborn, Bob James, Weather Report and the Yellowjackets as well as Miles Davis and Dizzy Gillespie and more. A self described audiophile, growing up she was always found by the stereo spinning records or listening to the radio! Her father played classical music in the home during her early childhood. Inspired by the jazz artists she listened to as a child, she started out playing the alto saxophone at the age of 10 and played through high school. While in college she caught the singing bug and thus began her journey into singing.

In the 90's Candace moved to San Francisco and while there sang with the Oakland Jazz Choir. She performed at Yoshi’s as well as Pete Escobedo’s Mr. E’s. She also performed at several other Bay Area jazz spots in San Francisco, Oakland, Berkeley and Sonoma county as a solo artist during her 4 year stay in San Francisco. Also while in San Francisco she studied voice with Molly Holm, co-leader of Bobby McFerrin’s “Voicestra”. She has also participated in clinics with artists such as Chick Corea, Sunny Wilkinson, Kevin Letteau, Michele Weir and Regina Carter. She worked with John Handy while he was artist in residence at San Francisco State and was well received by neo soul singer, Ledisi in a workshop at Jazz Camp West in Berkeley.

Candace was featured as a participant of “The Best of Kern 2010” from a grant from the Arts Council of Kern.

Candace has performing regularly at venues across Bakersfield as a solo artist and occasionally elsewhere for several years and is a founding member Bakersfield's Premier Steely Dan Tribute band, the Blue Deacons as well as soul and funk projects for top local soul and funk band J2. She is also a studio recording artist and has been hired to record with others on original projects.

Candace has a vast repertoire of music comprising of standards, blues and straight ahead tunes by Wayne Shorter, Horace Silver and others that are not typically sung by your average jazz vocalist. Her current favorite jazz artists are jazz vocalist Nneena Freelon, Charles Mingus, Wayne Shorter, Horace Silver, Freddie Hubbard just to name a few. She also sings Soul songs both new and classic and has her own jazzy arrangements of contemporary pop tunes and some classic rock.

Candace resides with her two children in Bakersfield, California.
