Overview

Camerata Musica is a coed group of 12 a cappella singers who specialize in madrigal pieces with rich harmonies, in addition to Christmas and Chanukah songs in December. Our repertoire includes music in many languages, from the Middle Ages through the Renaissance and later periods. We preface each song with a humorous or heartfelt introduction and usually create a theme that ties the pieces into a story. Our colorful costumes reflect the medieval and Renaissance. We have performed at Renaissance festivals, libraries, senior centers, malls, parties, and weddings. For weddings, we can perform before the ceremony while guests are arriving or during a procession, reception, lunch, or dinner.

Fantastic singing group performing in costume

Camerata Musica is a fantastic group of singers that performs renaissance and medieval music almost every December at our 2nd Wednesday program at the Village Learning Place. They routinely draw the highest attendance among the many musical groups in our program, perform in costume, sing in different languages, and have the most wonderful voices. Not only that, they are very pleasant to be around.

About

Camerata Musica is an energetic mixed group of a cappella singers who specialize in madrigal pieces with rich harmonies. Our repertoire includes music in many languages, dating from the Middle Ages through the Renaissance and later periods. Based in Columbia, Maryland, we offer songs that range from the sacred to the silly, from Latin chants to love ballads. We preface each song with a humorous or heartfelt introduction and usually create a theme for each set that ties the various pieces into a story. Our colorful costumes and old-fashioned accessories reflect the medieval and Renaissance periods. We have a long history with the Maryland Renaissance Festival, having performed there for 40 years. Camerata has sung at the Kennedy Center as well as various local festivals, libraries, retirement homes, malls, weddings, and parties. We encourage audience interaction and are happy to adapt our shows to any event, venue, and age level. We are seasoned performers, with most members having performed continuously since childhood. Our current director has been with us for more than 20 years.
For the winter holidays, Camerata Musica performs Renaissance, medieval, and modern songs, including carols, sacred pieces, Chanukah favorites, and folk tunes. Drum or tambourine accompany some of our pieces. Our costume colors emphasize red and green during this season. We can tailor our music to include only Christmas songs if desired. We sing up to 8-part harmonies in several different European languages and invite you to join us in winter holiday cheer!
