Born and raised in Miami, Florida, Brian Peterson is a singer/songwriter that has been playing music since he was an early teenager. Though influenced by many artists and genres of music, Brian most indentifies his inspiration from the 1990’s alternative rock movement. Originally beginning his musical journey on drums, Brian soon began playing guitar and never looked back.
After writing music on his own throughout his teenage years, Brian later teamed up with friends he made during his time working in the café at a local bookstore to form his first band, Overbored. Brian was the main songwriter on most of the material and played rhythm guitar and sang backup vocals. Overbored was featured during their existence from (phone number hidden)3 in local publications such as Broward New Times and a University of Miami fan-zine and played a consistent string of concerts with both local and national acts across South Florida. Upon completion of their 2003 demo album, the band ended shortly afterwards.
Brian began jamming with dozens of new musicians over the course of the next few years from (phone number hidden)6. After having close calls to getting something off the ground (including using the band name Breakthrough for a short time), a band was formed called Cerebrus. A three song demo was completed before the band dissolved. However, this time period was possibly the most prolific of Brian’s songwriting life. Brian recorded many hours of song ideas and completed many of the songs that later became his 1st solo album “Full Circle” in 2015. Brian occasionally began playing a few solo acoustic shows over the next few years as well.
After posting solo acoustic demos of his solo songs online, he was contacted by a local band that was in need of a guitar player and needed someone to help take them to the next level. Brian joined Scapegoat in the middle of 2008. This would end up being a great musical time for Brian. Scapegoat began playing numerous shows all around town (a local film festival, shows for war veterans, battle of the bands gigs, etc.) and even recorded a full demo album, which they posted online for their fans.
After a change in band lineup, the band re-named itself Sinphemy in 2011. Sinphemy would result in Brian’s greatest musical success to date. Sinphemy were featured on the nationally and internationally televised program “Miami Music Television” in 2011, with their segment of a live version of their song “Mute” that aired on a minimum of 4 different episodes. After a final lineup change, the band filmed their music video for “Mute” filmed by Borike Productions the next year. Brian kept writing music throughout, resulting in at least a co-writing credit on almost every one of the 27 songs the band eventually completed.
Soon, due to various events in the bands personal lives, the band was no more by the middle of 2012. A few later attempts to resurrect the band were unsuccessful. At a crossroads, Brian decided to go back to writing more of his own music and worked to refine his drumming skills.
In late 2014, Brian recorded an album of his original music by himself, completing all rhythm and lead guitar, bass, drum and vocal tracks alone. The album was named “Full Circle” as a reminder of how far he’s come and how he’s ended up back to basics writing and recording as a solo artist again. The album was released in January 2015 and a short tour and additional CD promotion followed.
