Appalachian String Duo

We are available for all sorts of events! From backyard parties, to weddings, to funerals, we are happy to work with you. Most of our repertoire consists of classical music, arrangements of popular music, and Celtic tunes, but we are always open to learning and arranging new music.
When you hire us for your wedding ceremony, you will get up to 30 minutes of prelude music, a processional and any other musical selections needed during the ceremony, as well as a recessional. We are also available to play for a cocktail hour immediately following the ceremony.

For all other events we can offer up to two hours of music.

Appalachian String Duo performs throughout Western North Carolina. Based out of Asheville, the duo consists of violinist, Megan Drollinger and cellist, Emmalee Hunnicutt. Friends and musical collaborators for over 20 years, our experience and connection allow us to create beautiful, seamless music for your friends and family. Offering both elegant Classical music, and traditional Celtic tunes, we customize our musical selections to help you create a magical and unforgettable experience on your special day.

A little bit about the musicians:
Megan Drollinger is a classically trained violinist originating from the heartland. Influenced by her father and sister, she began her musical journey at the age of four. Growing up she studied the Suzuki Method on violin at a local private music school while also learning fiddle tunes by ear from her father. Being a seventh generation fiddle player, she is honored to continue the tradition. Since moving to the mountains of North Carolina, she has felt inspired to weave together these two worlds. Blending her technical skill and knowledge with her love of traditional folk music, she strives to create a rich sound with informed harmonies that remind the listener of their true nature.

Classically trained from a young age, Emmalee has been making music for as long as she can remember. In 2010, she graduated from the University of Iowa with a degree in music, and has been playing professionally for 6 years. She currently plays with two area symphonies and with various ensembles spanning many genres. In addition to performing, Emmalee also composes and improvises on the cello. Combining technical skill with expressivity, she strives to create deeply felt experiences for her listeners. She finds great inspiration from the mountains and forests of this region, and is grateful to live in the midst of such beauty.

We are very low maintenance! All we require is two armless chairs, and an area large enough for us to sit comfortably with our two music stands and instruments. If an event is outdoors, we do place the utmost importance on the safety of our instruments. Performing area must be out of direct sunlight and precipitation. For the safety of our own instruments, we do not play outdoors in temperatures less than 55 degrees or over 95 degrees. In cases of inclement weather, there must be an alternative area for us to set up. In most circumstances, we do not require amplification, though depending on the size of the space and the number of guests, it is sometimes necessary.
