Overview

Nashville based live or session drummer. I studied jazz drum set and percussion at Berklee College of Music and received the PA friends of Jazz scholarship award in 2000. I have played on a number of albums and studios in town and also have played live in many of popular venues in Nashville. I am available for in studio sessions as well as live performances. I am able to sit in and be a part of small group or ensemble very quickly and can be available for recording sessions, having never hearing the tracks until the day of. Typically one or two listens in the booth and then into the studio is enough. I can read band charts or simple hits chart. Looking forward to playing with you!

Swinging from the Chandelier

I could honestly not recommend a drummer with more enthusiasm. Anthony really swings and understands the nuances of jazz, but his versatility can go to virtually any other genre with the blink of an eye. He has ascended to master of all trades as a drummer.

His masterful control over dynamics is especially important to me as a vocalist. I never feel like I'm struggling to hear myself over him or have to ask him to quiet down. He's ability to NOT play over the band and yet be completely in control of the tempo and feel is impressive.

When hiring Anthony, he is on time, professionally dressed, pleasant to all those around him and I know that he's showing up prepared for the work at hand. He's ALWAYS prepared for anything you throw at him, his flexibility as a musician as well as a person is such a treat. He has wonderful ears and picks up things quickly.

Anthony Matula is definitely someone you want to have on your team!

Anthony Matula Rocks (literally and figuratively)

Anthony Matula is excellent at what he does. I have had the good fortunate of standing in front of his drum kit many times with the group MAS Nashville (www.masnashville.com), and various other times in theatrical settings, and he always delivers. Whether he is playing a straight-up cover, bringing a new flavor or beat to an old song, or helping sort out the sound for an original piece, he can do it all, and he can do it well. I will continue to work with him whenever I can.

What to expect

I can bring a full drum set to compliment and fulfill any and all styles of music with a range of snare drums and cymbals. At times, drums might not even be used to get the sound you are looking for. I can also use the drums you have there if they are already setup for the sound you are looking for.

Setup time is very short and I am very used to "playing to the room." I can adjust easily to a particular atmosphere and volume will adjust accordingly. I'm not a drummer that has a single volume.

I have performed in many different venues that require certain looks or dress codes, but typically you will find me in all black.
