Overview

Alexander's Jazz Time Band is an 11-piece group modeled on the hot dance bands of the 1920s and early 1930s. Our repertoire consists of jazz compositions and Tin Pan Alley tunes from the post-ragtime, pre-swing era of popular music. All the arrangements we play were written between 1923 and 1935, and we play these arrangements in a style consistent with Jazz Age performance practice.
Whether you're looking for an elegant musical backdrop for your 1920s-themed event or you seek a crowd-pleasing act for your concert series, please send us an inquiry.

Gig length: 60 - 120 minutes

Additional booking notes

AJTB typically performs as an 11-piece unit with the following instrumentation:

3 saxophones (doubling on clarinet)
2 trumpets
trombone
tuba
violin
piano
guitar (doubling on vocals)
piano
drums (doubling on vibraphone)

We do occasionally perform without violin, but please be aware that not all of the arrangements in our repertoire sound well without at least one violin.

If no piano is available on-site, we bring our own digital piano. Our singer/guitarist and our violinist typically perform with amplification; our pianist uses an amplifier when playing on a digital piano. We have our own mics, cables, and amplifiers, but we sometimes use the house's sound equipment, depending on the venue.
