The African Drummer, Maila, who blessed us during our Black History Month celebration delivered an extraordinary interactive and educational performance that truly brought history and culture to life. From the very first beat of the drum, the energy in the room shifted — hearts were stirred, feet began tapping, and smiles filled the sanctuary. He did more than perform; he educated. Through rhythm and storytelling, he explained the origins and purposes of traditional African drums, how they were used for communication, celebration, worship, and community gatherings. The congregation learned how drum patterns carried messages across villages and how rhythm has always been central to African heritage. What made the experience especially memorable was the level of interaction. Members of all ages were invited to participate — clapping, responding to call-and-response rhythms, and even trying their hands at drumming. The children were completely engaged, and the adults were equally captivated. It was learning, worship, and celebration woven together beautifully. His presentation reminded us that African drumming is not just music — it is history, resilience, communication, and joy. The performance perfectly complemented our Black History Month observance and deepened our appreciation for the richness of African culture. We are grateful for such a powerful, uplifting, and educational experience. It was truly a highlight of our celebration.
