One of the newest troupes in the Lower Mainland, Shimmy for the Soul BELLY DANCERS performed at over 20 community events in their first three months together as a group. Dancers of all levels, ages and backgrounds were drawn together by their adventurous spirit and love for the dance to iexperiment with a wide range of styles of belly dance. Shimmy for the Soul - the performance troupe, is the newest branch of VDRD to emerge on the scene featuring the experienced performance dancers in VDRD dancing some of Nicole's more 'showy' performance choreographies.

For events small and large, Shimmy for the Soul can provide unique solo and troupe performances that demonstrate diverse styles and influences - from American Tribal Style to Egyptian and more. We have an arsenal of showy dance props at our disposal - from balancing fire to veils, canes, zills and epic Isis Wing displays that are always a memorable show piece for any venue!

About Choreographer Nicole Whitney

Fast Tracking it.... Nicole Whitney began bellydancing in January 2006 and was choreographing new dances and performing publicly within three months of her very first class. What originally started as a dare, became a life changing passion-filled past time that she found herself taking part in at least four or five days a week.

Nicole is a member of MEDA [Middle Eastern Dance Association] in B.C. and an active student and enthusiast of bellydancing, studying new techniques and styles with as many leaders in the field as possible.

Nicole performs regularly with three bellydance troupes - Jawahir [Melody Jones], Nadira Nuwar [with Tammy Anderson] and Nicole's own troupe "Vancouver's Desert Rain Dancers" who, in their first 3 months, performed at major events including Langley Canada Day, The Underwear Affair in Vancouver, Run for the Cure, The 17th International Days, International Bog Festival and the 2009 BC Renaissance Fair.

Currently, Nicole is teaching bellydance in Surrey, West Vancouver and Langley, B.C. and hosts a correspondence course for students around the world. She has also developed a line of affordable cabaret style bellydance bras and accessories.

When she's not bellydancing, Nicole is busy producing Life Changing Radio Broadcasts at News for the Soul - the #1 life changing radio show in the world according to Google and Aol and home to the largest totally free life changing audio library on the world wide web.
