What to Expect
Typical Gig Duration: 30 - 150 minutes
In our LaughCrafters:Comedy Improv stage show, the audience enjoys a high energy show where scenes are created based on suggestions from the audience themselves, sometimes in the form of a "game". It is "short-form" improv where each section typically lasts 3-10 minutes. Some sections involve audience on stage and/or troupe members in the audience. Music is also used for transitions. This show has performed in a variety of venue sizes including library community rooms and on large theater stages.
In our workshop series, the audience is brought up in one large group and led through some fun physical and brain warm-ups followed by simple theater games that encourage quick thinking, team work, and finding the truth in comedy. All done in a very encouraging, coaching, and supportive casual style. Often the troupe will perform perform a piece or two at the start and end of the event. This event works best in groups of 8-30 people but can accomodate more.
For many school groups, we have performed a "hybrid version" which involves a few scenes by the troupe, followed by a brief workshop, and capped with a couple closing scenes by the troupe. This option works best in small groups of 15-35 people.
Stage/Setup Requirements:
1-2 small tables on side of stage area
4-6 chairs on stage that can be easily moved
general lighting
Additional Notes:
Our improv show can be as high or low tech as needed. Typically we require a stage space of at least 15x15 feet with access to general lighting for blackouts next to a normal power outlet for our sound system or access to a sound system. An elevated platform/stage is preferred, but we have performed in just wide open rooms on floor level. Access to light blackouts can also be lost for more of a casual event.
For our workshops, just a wide open space is needed big enough to accomodate the # of participants to form a large circle with arms outstretched.
For all events, water and access to restrooms is our only hospitality requirement. We also typically ask that the buyer takes care of any venue management, event registration, security, janitorial, or other needs. Of course our staff is always willing to assist with room set-up and cleaning afterwards for a successful event.
We also work with the buyer on promotions and publicity including media alerts, availability for interviews, and cross promoption on websites.
Set/Song/Sequence List:
Our shows vary in content and length and are customized to each venue and event.
Typically a cold-open that introduces the troupe, followed by a welcome, then right into a series of games and scenes.
our closer and encores options include our troupe's version of: "Rant", "Continuous monologue", or "Scene in a minute".
We're also known for our 3 person linking "Pan Left/Pan Right", "Celebrity Hot-Tub", "Spelling Bee", "Layered Freeze boomerang" and "one-word" character scenes.
Favorites in our workshop include "Chain Murder", "What are you Doing", "Art Gallery", and "Freezejumps".
