Why hire Mike Evans?
As a vocalist and pianist I specialize in popular and rock music from the 1950's to the present. I also perform instrumental jazz piano as a soloist or with a small ensemble. Having a request list of 1000 popular and rock songs, the most frequently named artists are: The Beatles, Elton John, Billy Joel, Bob Dylan, James Taylor, Frank Sinatra, Stevie Wonder, Fleetwood Mac, Sting, U2, Cat Stevens and Neil Diamond. Since 2003, I have been performing each weekend at the Swank Key Piano Bar at Marisol restaurant where my performances have been described as highly authentic. I have often been asked where I studied voice even though my formal training has only been in Jazz and Classical piano (M.M. Indiana Univ.). I perform for any kind of event and hope to serve you!
About
I am a life long resident of Greensboro who has performed professionally since my 20's as a jazz and singing pianist for 25 years. I became a music enthusiast at the early age of 4 while watching the Beatles on the Ed Sullivan Show. Consequently I am especially knowledgeable of the music from the 60's through the 80's - it is hard to stump me - and am generally familiar with music from the 90's. My knowledge of jazz is also strong having studied jazz piano privately with a renowned professor at UNC-Chapel Hill, having played as a soloist and in various ensembles, both small groups and big bands, and having earned a Master's degree in Jazz Studies (with a minor in Classical piano) from one of the nation's top music schools, Indiana University (1993).
As a jazz pianist I perform only instrumental jazz and in a number of styles: for example standards, ballads, swing, Latin, modal and bebop. As a singing pianist I have a play list of popular and rock music of unusually wide variety. My strongest influences are the Beatles and Elton John. Elton John has had such a profound influence on my development as a musician that the personalized license plate on my car reads "ELTONIST." And because these two major artists of the last 40-50 years have had a major influence on popular and rock music in general, my request list contains a great diversity of artists (300 ). Consequently there is something for everyone. In my ten years at the Swank Key Piano Bar at Marisol restaurant in Greensboro, I have never known a customer who was not able to find songs to his or her liking.
You can also expect from me sincere congeniality and a strong desire and willingness to serve you. Not only do I provide music, but I also enjoy the personal contact and conversation with customers. You will find me as well to be naturally politie and good natured bringing much laughter to others. I feel extremely comfortable in this role and setting, feeling both in my element and very much at home. In addition I am one who derives so much energy by singing and playing for others music for which I feel passion that you will find me typically forgetting to take a break, and when I do take an occasional break it is relatively brief as I am typically desiring to get back to the music and the opportunity to entertain.
Finally you will find me to be honest and go the extra mile to satisfy not only the listener but also the event planner. You can count on me to serve cheerfully and conscientiously. I hope to have an opportunity to provide you the highest quality professional entertainment.
