Mary-Alexandra Onstad, soprano

About

Described as a “voice of rich warmth and youthful elegance”, American soprano Mary-Alexandra Onstad is a versatile performer of opera, musical theatre, theatre, oratorio, art song and more. Currently residing in Boston, MA, Ms. Onstad graduated in May 2010 with her Graduate Diploma in Voice and Opera Studies at the New England Conservatory of Music studying with Karen Holvik.
Ms. Onstad has been seen on many stages including Boston Opera Collaborative, New England Conservatory Opera Theatre, New England Light Opera, Juventas New Music Ensemble, Providence Opera, Fargo-Moorhead Opera as well as many different performances within Germany, Austria, England, and Italy including performances with the Frieberg Opera Theatre during her summer contract in 2007.
Ms. Onstad is also a very large advocate of outreach within schools, nursing homes, and community events. While completing her undergraduate studies Ms. Onstad was asked to sing with the outreach team of the Fargo-Moorhead Opera going into schools to educate children on the practices of Opera. Winter 2009 while studying at New England Conservatory she was asked to perform a holiday quartet with three other colleagues at different schools, nursing homes and other venues.
A performer of great desire and determination, Mary-Alexandra has participated in many prestigious opera programs such as the Berkshire Choral Festival (2003) as a student scholarship winner in Santa Fe, NM, the Bay Summer Opera Theatre Institute in San Francisco(2005), Oberlin in Italy Opera Festival in Urbana(2004), University of Miami at Salzburg, Austria(2003), and Saltnote Stageworks Opera Festival(2008). Some recent roles include The Vixen in Jancek’s Cunning Little Vixen, Barbarina in Le Nozze di Figaro, and The Sandman in Hansel and Gretel.
Ms. Onstad received her Master of Music in Voice at Shenandoah Conservatory and her Bachelor of Music in Voice at Concordia College-Moorhead, MN. She currently studies with Michael Meraw and coaches with Timothy Steele.

Additional Notes:
I am a solo musician who performs with a pianist. I'm capable of bringing my own pianist but will need enough time to collaborate with the pianist. I will need to know in advance what type of music you would like offered at your event. E.G if you are hiring me for your wedding, how many selections would you like me to sing. I am willing to speak with you over email or phone to discuss options and give you different varieties of pieces to choose from. If it is a special event I will need to know how much music you would like me to sing and what type of music you would like offered to your guests. I'm very open to different selections and as I said before can you give you lists of differrent selections that I am willing to perform. Please note: I am willing to learn anything but please give me at least 1 weeks notice to prepare something I might not know. We can discuss this when dealing with the bookings.

Set/Song/Sequence List:
When booking I can offer pieces that I know or have performed before. My speciality genres are Musical Theatre, Opera, Art Song, Relgious Music, and Jazz but am willing to perform others if given enough notice.
