Guests can browse and sign up for karaoke using their smartphones, keeping everything efficient and organized. Traditional sign-up is always an option as well using paper request slips.

Velvet Sounds Entertainment is a Prior Lake–based entertainment business owned and operated by Michelle Wells, a professional vocalist, DJ, and karaoke host with 33 years of experience.

Michelle knows how to read a crowd, keep an event running smoothly, and create a fun, welcoming atmosphere for guests of all ages. She provides entertainment for weddings, private parties, corporate functions, community celebrations, fairs and festivals, bars and venues, senior communities, schools, youth organizations, nonprofit events, and many other occasions.

These are only examples—Velvet Sounds welcomes inquiries for musical entertainment at virtually any type of event, large or small, and will accommodate each request whenever scheduling, travel, and venue requirements allow.

DJ entertainment, hosted karaoke, and live vocal performances may be booked separately or combined to fit each event. Velvet Sounds also offers family-friendly music and video entertainment, bubble dance parties, and interactive music and dance activities for children and mixed-age audiences.

Large-screen outdoor video-viewing parties and watch events are also available, featuring a 10-by-10-foot projection screen and speaker coverage suitable for larger crowds.

Every DJ and karaoke booking includes professional dance-floor lighting and a complete sound system suited to the event and venue. Additional options include blacklight and glow-party effects, disco lighting, spotlight moments, uplighting, lasers, and fog effects.

Each booking is customized around the audience, venue, schedule, and overall vision for the event.

Velvet Sounds Entertainment carries liability insurance and is registered with the State of Minnesota.

Technical & Setup Requirements

To ensure the best possible sound quality, performance experience, and equipment safety, the following setup requirements must be met:

Space Requirements
A minimum 10’ x 10’ performance area is required for equipment setup and staging
Area must be:
Flat and level
Stable and dry
Free of obstruction

For outdoor events, this is especially important to ensure safe equipment placement and performance conditions.

Power Requirements
A minimum of two standard electrical outlets within 50 feet of the setup area
Power must be:
Reliable and consistent
Properly grounded
Not shared with high-power equipment (such as catering equipment, inflatables, or refrigeration)

Note: Standard or consumer-grade generators are not considered acceptable unless approved in advance due to potential risk to sensitive audio equipment.

Internet Access (Optional)
Reliable Wi-Fi is preferred for enhanced functionality (such as karaoke search and song access), but is not required for operation
Outdoor Event Requirements

For any outdoor setup, proper protection must be provided to ensure safe operation:

A shaded and covered area (tent, canopy, or similar) is required to protect equipment from:
Direct sunlight
Rain or moisture
Wind, dust, or debris
If adequate protection cannot be provided, the event may need to be relocated indoors for equipment safety
Safety & Equipment Protection
Equipment must remain in a secure area and not accessible to guests or children
Cables and equipment will be positioned safely; clients agree not to move or adjust equipment
Setup & Access
A minimum of 2 hours prior to event start is required for setup and soundcheck
Client must ensure access to the setup area during this time
Weather & Environmental Conditions

Velvet Sounds Entertainment reserves the right to delay, pause, relocate, or discontinue services if conditions are deemed unsafe due to weather or environmental factors.

This includes rain, lightning, high winds, extreme heat, or other hazardous conditions.

An indoor backup option is strongly recommended for all outdoor events.
