About

My name is Mari Liestman. I am currently studying music at the University of Minnesota. Music has always been a defining aspect of my life. A year after I began piano lessons with my mom, I decided I wanted to learn how to play the violin.

I have 13 years of experience playing the violin. I studied with Dr. Marion Judish at St. Cloud State University for 9 years. For five years I was a member of the Greater Twin Cities Youth Symphony (GTCYS). I was a member of the St. Cloud Symphony (an auditioned, semi-professional orchestra) for four and a half years, and had to leave when I left for college. I am now a member of the University of Minnesota's string orchestra. From elementary school through high school, I performed in multiple talent shows, playing anything from Mozart to Charlie Daniels', "The Devil Went Down to Georgia." I have performed with local musician Jill Zimmerman in and around the cities. In high school, I accompanied the choirs multiple times, and I was asked to play at graduation and Baccalaureate. I have played at wedding services and funerals for years in a variety of settings, including Catholic, Baptist, Lutheran, Methodist, and non-denominational settings. Event planners can expect excellence in my level of musicianship.

As Dr. Marion Judish wrote in a letter of recommendation,

Having worked closely with her for the past nine years as her private teacher, I can attest to her strong musical understanding and acute sense of achieving technical mastery.

As a leader, Mari is highly inspiring to all the musicians, young and old, instilling by example a work ethic and dedication that is success-oriented. This leadership coupled with sound violin pedagogy skills and musical understanding is no doubt a key factor in building a high morale with the St. Cloud Symphony with whom she performs, and other fellow musicians with whom she interacts.

Yet, for all Mari's drive and energy, her spirit is calm and serene. She is supremely easy to get along with and is extremely dependable and capable of accomplishing any goal, tireless in her desire to continue in her goals through her music making."
