Background:
Kimberly Hankins is a violist and studio musician currently based in the DC Metro area. She has performed as a soloist and chamber musician throughout the United States, Germany, Luxembourg, and Iceland. She is a Performance Diploma Candidate and winner of the Artistic Excellence Award at Indiana University in Steven Wyrczynski's studio, and holds a Bachelor of Music Performance from the University of Arizona where she studied with Hong-Mei Xiao. She has also studied and performed in masterclasses with Kevork Mardirossian, Samuel Rhodes, Christof Huebner, and Pauline Sasche.

Kimberly has collaborated with renowned musicians such as Susan Lamb Cook, Nathan Giem, and Anthony Hose. As an orchestral musician, she has performed under the baton of Leonard Slatkin, Alan Gilbert, David Effron, Cliff Colnot, and Asher Fisch.

Not only a classical musician, Kimberly enjoys performing in various jazz, rock, and gypsy ensembles, and has appeared with many bands and musicians including Blood Sweat and Tears, Baron von Bear, Duo Vibrato, Marquis Toliver, Mike Mineo, and Nestor Torres, and has performed on tour with Jason Bonham. This year she will
appear at multiple venues with Drop Electric.

In addition, Kimberly has performed much contemporary music and frequently collaborates with student composers. In 2009 she premiered Jon Carter’'s “Milk Basket Bicycle for solo electric viola," a piece that was composed for her that same year.

In 2010 she appeared in Reykjavik, Iceland as a soloist at Tnlistarht unga flksins, “The Young People’s Music Festival.” This summer, she was a participant in the National Orchestral Institute.

Kimberly is a founding member of the Kensington Trio (performing it's premier recital on September 15, 2012), and member of the Apollo Chamber Orchestra. In her spare time, she runs a private studio of about twenty violin and viola students.
