Why hire Jim Pharis?
I am a singer and fingerstyle guitarist playing acoustic blues, jazz and pop tunes from the 1920's and '30's. My repertoire is drawn from the same group of songs that artist such as Leon Redbone have used.
My playing situations have ranged from city streets to large music festivals. This range of experiences has helped me to become very responsive to the needs of the playing situation.

About
My interest in the blues music that comprises part of my repertoire began as a kid in the late 1960's. Learning about that music and a developing interest in jazz eventually led me to the jazz and pop tunes that I now play.
I am equally at ease being the center of attention or playing background music. My desire is to do what's needed to make an event fun and successful This includes playing at an appropriate volume for the situation.
Influences
The contemporary performers that I'm most often compared to are Leon Redbone and Ernie Hawkins. Historical performers that have been an influence include Blind Boy Fuller, Nick Lucas, Blind Blake, Jelly Roll Morton and Fats Waller.
What to Expect
Typical Gig Duration: 45 - 3 minutes
My performances are noted for a warm, relaxed presentation featuring smooth vocals, dazzling guitar work and a friendly, outgoing demeanor with the audience. The person booking me has come to expect a professional, "no drama" performer/contractor.
