About

Hi, I'm Janet Orsi. I am a versatile singer, currently pursuing a double BM degree in Vocal Performance and Music Education at Chapman University. My specialty and first love is jazz music, though I am also well trained in classical and musical theatre styles.

Currently, I am the female vocalist for Chapman University's Big Band and a member of their vocal jazz ensemble. As far as jazz, I can...sing, scat, and work well with other musicians. Artists I'm influenced by are Ella Fitzgerald, Nat King Cole, Louis Armstrong and I love the compositional work of George Gershwin, Duke Ellington, and Cole Porter.

I am also training as a classical vocalist (mezzo-soprano) and I study with Christina Dahlin. Recently, I performed on a sophomore studio recital and am very involved in Chapman's choral music. I can sing in German, Italian, French, English and Spanish. (This is a great plus for gigs like weddings as I can sing classical pieces in the ceremony and turn on the jazz for the reception)

I attended OCHSA for high school and studied musical theatre, jazz and pop there. I have been in several theatre productions including The Secret Garden, The Light in the Piazza, Chess and others. This past year, I was also part of a huge scale show at Chapman called American Celebration.
