Fontainebleau Strings is a small core of players--a quartet and subs for each instrument--who freelance regularly in the orchestras, ensembles and houses of worship around Cincinnati, Dayton, and Northern Kentucky. We have an extensive collection of wedding repertoire. In some cases, we have 2 or 3 arrangements of the same piece, have played them all, and have discovered which one works the best. We continually add to our repertoire and accommodate special requests whenever possible.
All members of Fontainebleau Strings are highly skilled at their instruments, senstive ensemble players, and experienced at weddings. Although we rehearse and prepare, we know that "things happen"! Someone doesn't show up on time and we might need extra prelude music. The bride walks faster than she did in rehearsal, so we have to finish a piece up quickly. Or maybe the officiant gets the service out of order. It has all happened, and we go with the flow. Also: a wedding is not a concert. While we are happy to advise and select pieces, we will not dictate your program to you. If we can play your special requests, we will.
What to Expect
Typical Gig Duration: 60 - 90 minutes
We generally play for about a half hour before the ceremony starts. For example, if your wedding starts at 4:30, we begin the prelude music at about 4:00. The "official" ceremony often starts with the entry of the mothers who light the candles, followed by the attendants, and then the bride. Often, we play a short piece for the Unity Candle, or a longer piece if the ceremony includes Sign of Peace, a meditation or Communion. We follow "May I introduce for the first time Mr. & Mrs. ___" with a joyous recessional, followed by additional music while the guests dismiss. Often, we play during a "cocktail hour" where the music tends to go toward lighter/popular ambient music. It makes for a nice transition to the music of the reception band or d.j.
All we require is adequate reading light and an armless chair for each musician. Our music fills large churches and halls, and is more than sufficient for most outdoor weddings.
