About Don Martin, Solo Jazz Guitarist

Don Martin, solo jazz guitarist, is a full-time professional musician who specializes in providing smooth jazz for any event. With more than twenty-five years experience, he has entertained thousands of people at cocktail receptions, corporate dinners, holiday gatherings, and many other venues with his mellow jazz.

Don's musical style offers a perfect background for occasions where soft jazz enhances conversations and provides a pleasant ambience during more quiet moments.

There are no travel restrictons. Although most of his work is within a hundred mile radius of Syracuse, he has traveled extensively throughout the Northeast and the Atlantic coast.

Biography:

I have played jazz guitar since my teens and have enjoyed every moment of the practice, re-practice, and most importantly, the performances that I have had the pleasure to experience. Although my formal education includes a Bachelor degree in Sociology and a Master of Business Administration, I never had any formal instruction in music. I developed my craft by listening to the greats and attempted to replicate their feel, intensity, and interpretaton of their arrangements of the masters that preceded them. I have always had a passion for jazz and revel in this genre that welcomes one's personal expression of the wonderful music that these brilliant artists have composed.

I play for each audience individually and try to select each song that will reach those in attendance at the specific event. My repertoire includes the great jazz standards, show tunes, and smooth jazz arrangements of contemporary and pop music. I have enjoyed the variety of venues where I have played, from the intimate solo gigs at supper clubs, to jazz performances for larger audiences which include the 1998, 1999, & 2004 Syracuse M&T Jazz Festivals. It is my pleasure to include in this bio my recent nomination for the Syracuse New Times 2008 Syracuse Music Award (SAMMY) for Best Jazz in the Syracuse area.
