About

Since 2003, the Chicago-based Crown Vics have been bringing audiences their intrepid blend of 1950’s birth of Rock ‘n’ Roll and R&B showstoppers.

Steeped in the big beat rhythms of Bill Haley & the Comets, the screaming saxes of early honkers like Joe Houston and the frenetic energy of Freddie Bell and Jimmy Cavallo, the six piece Crown Vics recreate the vintage sounds, sights and vibe of an early 50’s Alan Freed stage spectacular—one that has to be seen to be believed.
With an upright slap bass, drums and guitar, the Crown Vics’ rhythm section provides the foundation and heartbeat of the band’s solid vibe. The group’s signature sound is created by the tenor and baritone saxophones that engage the audience with bar-walking solos and stage antics. Fronted by veteran shouter, Mike Kinnavy, the Crown Vics become Chicago’s most authentic 1950’s Birth of Rock & Roll band!

The Vics have brought their authentic form of early Rock ‘n’ Roll to audiences of all ages. The Crown Vics have performed throughout the Midwest at venues such as the Kalahari Resort in Sandusky, OH; the Star Plaza Theater in Merrillville, IN; the Allstate Arena; Soldier Field; and the 2009 World of Wheels at the McCormick Place, in Chicago. Their appeal stretches beyond their Midwest roots, headlining a Friday night slot at the 2009 Viva Las Vegas 12 Rockabilly Weekender at the Orleans Hotel and Resort in Las Vegas.

In addition, the band has been regulars at upscale Chicago clubs such as Green Dolphin Street, Frankie’s Blue Room and more. The band is also honored to have backed such Ultimate Doo Wop greats as Gene Chandler, Frankie Lymon’s Teenagers, The Eldorados, as well as Milt Trenier, legendary member of The Treniers, one of the first rock ‘n’ roll bands ever.

When only the most authentic early 50s rock ‘n’ roll experience will do, get hip to the jive and set the clock to rock—it’s time for The Crown Vics.
