WHO ARE WE? Here’s a little more about us:
The singers of Clockwork have proven themselves to be versatile and have been noticed in the artistic community for their wide-ranging talent and abilities. In addition to Clockwork, all the singers are in demand for clinics, adjudication, projects and performances.
• ANGIE DOCTOR is the soprano in Clockwork. A studio singer and live performer who began her career in Chicago doing commercials and voice-overs, Angie is also a songwriter and arranger. Her vocal work can be heard on a number of recordings including her own original songs, as a guest artist on Richard Bob Greene’s solo album “Low? Bottom? Me?” and on the soundtrack for “Spy Kids”, a feature film by Dimension Films/Miramax. Angie is a founding member of the Grammy-nominated PM Singers. She has brought her extensive experience in solo and small-group harmony singing to workshops and festivals as a judge and clinician over the past twelve years.
Angie and Dave appear on an instructional video with Ward Swingle, (produced by John Neal and directed by Richard “Bob” Greene), demonstrating rehearsal and vocal techniques for a cappella singing.
• JULIET GREEN is the alto in Clockwork. Originally from Maui, Hawaii, Juliet’s earliest jazz influence came from listening to her father, Pat Green, play jazz piano and sing in many of the island’s restaurants and hotels. He even let her sit in occasionally. In 1991, Juliet moved to the San Francisco Bay Area, where she began teaching music in the Portola Valley School District. She began singing in various college vocal jazz ensembles, including Foothill’s Fanfairs and De Anza’s Vocal Flight. It was at De Anza that she met Dave Duran and Paul Cingolani, and with them founded the award-winning a cappella group +4db. In 2001, Juliet continued to sing with Cingolani and Duran under the name “Vocalese Inc.”, and began exploring the art of vocalese, becoming an accomplished lyricist. Her debut CD, “Simple”, featuring many of her original lyrics, was released in late (link hidden) addition to Clockwork, Juliet continues her work as an educator at the Jazzschool in Berkeley, and at Corte Madera School in Portola Valley. She sings with the big band “A Touch of Brass” under the direction of Ed Morrison, and also with jazz vocal quintet Moodswing (2005 Bay Area Harmony Sweepstakes Champions).
• JOHN PADDOCK is the tenor in Clockwork. A San Francisco bay area native, John began his singing career as a boy soprano. As a founding member of the PM Singers, John received a Grammy nomination for his work on the album “Night in the City”, for which he served as both singer and recording engineer. Notable performances for both John and Angie include appearances at the Monterey Jazz Festival, the IAJE national convention and Birdland. Both singers have performed live with Bobby McFerrin, The HiLos! members Gene Puerling, Don Shelton and Clark Burroughs, The Singers Unlimited’s Bonnie Herman and with Rob McConnell and the Boss Brass.
John holds degrees in both music and architecture and is experienced in acoustic and audiovisual systems design, using his talents in the design and construction of recording studios. He has also taught courses in audio engineering and studio production. John has produced and engineered shows or recordings for Bobby McFerrin, Take 6, The HiLo's, Richie Cole, Stan Getz and Mark Murphy among others.
In addition to Clockwork, John and Angie sing with the Pacific Mozart Ensemble, and have performed with Sufjan Stevens, Dave Brubeck, at Carnegie Hall with Meredith Monk and are featured soloists on the 2005 Grammy nominated performance of Leonard Bernstein's “Mass”, recorded in Berlin, Germany with Kent Nagano and the Deutsches Symphonie Orchester.
• DAVE DURAN is the baritone in Clockwork. As a founding member of two award-winning groups, +4db and Moodswing, Dave is now bringing his singing, arranging and producing experience to Clockwork.
Dave has been a performer since the tender age of 6 and attended Chula Vista’s School for the Creative and Performing Arts in San Diego. He went on to study jazz vocal music at De Anza College with Roger Letson, where he met Juliet. Both were key vocalists in the acclaimed college group Vocal Flight. Dave has a degree in computer science and music from UC Santa Cruz and is as creative in business as he is in music. In 2001 he co-founded an internet software business and then successfully sold it in 2006.
Dave and Juliet were Regional Champions in the A Cappella Harmony Sweepstakes, twice for +4db and once for Moodswing, placed in the National Finals all three times, and were voted Audience Favorite and awarded Best Arrangement each time they appeared in the contest. With these ensembles, Dave and Juliet had the opportunity to tour and perform in Seattle, Washington DC, Boston, France, Germany, and Japan.
