About

Ernest Amos-Jackson is a native of Santa Cruz, California. He studied magic at a very early age, showing various tricks to his family and friends. He soon began designing and constructing his own tricks and props and performed complete shows while known as "The Great Whodunit".

He and two neighbor friends invented the world's first Sidewalk Magic Show, similar to a lemonade stand, in which drivers and pedestrians would stop by and pay to see a few tricks.

He further honed his skills by reading books of the master magicians and watching magic videos. In college, he studied theatrical arts and showmanship. He then began a professional magic career performing for childrens' parties.

He performed as "Andar the Sorcerer" for over eleven years. He recently changed his stage name to Andy "ZAP!" Jackson, a nickname he had since high school.

Magic Illusions Show
A highly entertaining one man magic show designed for: company parties, banquets, conventions, fundraisers, schools, birthdays, anniversaries, grand openings, fairs, festivals, picnics & carnivals. This type of show guarantees to astound audiences of all ages and combines visual magic with audience participation. Performance times are approximately 45 minutes.

Childrens Magical Birthday Party Show
Your child is the "Sorcerer's Apprentice" and stars in the show! Many magic effects with audience participation are part of this fun show tailored especially for children. Parents and other adults attending will also have a great time. Performance times are approximately 45 minutes.

Walk Around Close-Up Magic
Enjoy traveling close up magic designed to entertain your guests either one-on-one or as a small group. About four to seven magic effects are presented to a group of people and then repeated again as I walk along to each new group. A great way to begin your evening with a professional magician. Suitable for restaurants, cocktail parties, hospitality suites, banquets, receptions, or any occasion. Hourly rates.

When contacting Andy to hire him for a show, please provide at least one week's notice prior to your event date, so that he can make the appropriate preparations.

What to Expect

Typical Gig Duration: 30 - 60 minutes

My rates are $100 = 30 minute magic show, $125 = 45 minute show, $150 = one hour show, or $75 per hour for walk around close-up magic. (The difference in cost relates to the number of magic tricks/effects performed.) Travel expenses may be additional at a rate of $0.35/mile if you are located outside of Santa Cruz County.

I have a portable wooden magic box with shelves inside where I store my various magic effects. As I perform the show, I pull out one effect at a time. I also have folding tables behind me to hold the bigger illusions. The space needed for me to perform is about 6-8 feet square, indoors or outside.

Some of the effects and illusions include: colorful scarves, streamers, confetti, appearing cane, coloring book (that colors itself), multiplying milk, floating soda cup, Dis-armed illusion, color changing Jacob's ladder, rigid rope, Houdini-style chaincuffs, silver ball that floats through the air, water frozen into ice, dubious domino, rope through a volunteer's body, simple card tricks, balls through cups, production bag, square circle, appearing staff, and many other various effects.

Some of the illusions are choreographed to music. I have a portable music player. Lots of other tricks require audience participation and volunteer assistance.

I would need half an hour before the show starts, to prepare and set up all of the tricks. Payment will be due after my performance, in person on the day of the show.

I can perform either indoors, or outside. I only need a space of 6-8 feet square.

In my performances, I may use water, ice, confetti, paper streamers and butterflies, party poppers, colored smoke and/or flash paper fire. I am willing to cleanup after the show using a broom, or vacuum cleaner, as needed. Please let me know if you have any restrictions on the use of any of these items.
