Whitney Dobyns Cairns resides in El Paso, TX. She studied harp performance at Libery University and the University of Virginia, and traditional harp at the Irish Harp Centre in Limerick, Ireland and the Scoil na gClairseach in Kilkenny, Ireland. As a member of the chamber group Obligato and the harp/recorder duo Musica Gallica she has performed in a variety of venues across her home state of Virginia from weddings to small chamber works to large scale choral and orchestral performances and premiers. An enthusiastic exponent of both classial and folk harp, she taught folk harp at Hollins University, Roanoke, VA and founded and led the 10-member Blue Ridge Harp Ensemble.
