What to Expect
Expect interesting live animals to be brought, one or both if you'd like, and an experienced speaker on these animals to relay information on their care, what they would do in the wild, and the requirements for keeping such an animal happy. I'd be more than happy to answer any questions along the way about these creatures as well! Emmy is available for all handling/petting, and Spook is able to be held by one person at a time, permitting they're not afraid of spiders and able to follow some basic rules.
We are not expensive professionals in this area, simply put I am a girl with some interesting pets and a few friends willing to help along the way. I have background experience in handling reptiles and small animals in large crowds, and specifically educating children such as in summer camps and themed events. I have a passion for animals and teaching others about them that sprouted when I began at a young age learning at these very kinds of events!
A bit more info on my animals:
Spook is a male Curlyhair tarantula, almost two years old at this point and although he's fully mature, he's still growing! He is about 4-5 inches in length, about the size of a palm when fully spread out. He's never done an event before, but he's been working hard with handling and is now ready considering how calm he's become with it! Although to some he may look a little frightening, he came to me the shyest little bug you could imagine, jumping at any little movement or sound, and still, he is very sensitive to noise and vibrations because of his hairs. He's never once threatened to bite or flick hairs, though, even when introducing him to new people, and overall he's just the sweetest spider you could ever meet!
Emmy is very small for her age, at almost 5 years and only about 3 inches. She's still growing, very slowly, and every day I've been trying to get her even more happy and healthy! I bought her as a baby and wasn't quite sure how to care for her at first, but despite how much learning I've had to do, she's never once been sick and is as bright-eyed and energetic as ever! Emmy loves people and will eat straight from your hand, not once trying to bite anyone. She's done shows with children before and was extremely well-behaved the entire time!
