Virtuoso Violinist For Any Event
Overview
John Olsen began his studies on the violin as a 3 year old child prodigy. Discovered by Ruggiero Ricci, Palm Beach, his family moved to New York where Itzak Perlman and Yehudi Menuin impressed his technical form and musicality. At age 10 he won his first Competition studying with Vadim Repin. By age 21, he memorized all Major Concertos, from Show Pieces, to Paganini. His prize winnings included contracts with World Class Orchestras, and a gifted Guarneri. At age 50 he spends his time in Tampa FL to be with family. His greatest passion is to play for local events. We are all glad to have him in our area. But to be available for parties and weddings and all venues is a delight.

May 11, 2026Great Violinist
John played at our Mother’s Day Tea Party and did a great job. He was really nice and easy to work with, and the residents absolutely loved him. His music added such a special touch to the event and made it feel warm and enjoyable for everyone. His communication was also great, he kept me updated leading up to the event, which gave me peace of mind knowing everything was set and he would be there. We would definitely have him back again!

May 7, 2026Amazing!!
We had him play violin for a beachside picnic, and he truly made the experience unforgettable. From the start, he was incredibly communicative, thoughtful, and easy to work with.
What really stood out was the effort he put into learning specific songs just for us. You could feel the emotion and intention in every piece he played, it added such a special touch to the entire evening.
He went above and beyond in every way, and his passion for what he does really shows. If you’re looking for someone who is talented, reliable, and genuinely cares about creating a beautiful experience, I highly recommend him.

Dear Stephanie, First, I want to humbly thank you for accepting my quote. This is what allows me to use my 40 years of studying the Art of the Violin and bow, and have a career from doing what I devoted my life to. Second, I can not say just how much your story revolving around your trip and this special surprise to your beloved soul mate touched my life. The very one thing I loved and lost, is exactly the very thing I was chosen to bless with my violin. You were responsive and gentle mannered, appreciative and I thank you for the most kind words of adoration and expressing that I was able to deliver the caliber of performance promised in my profile. Thank you.....from the depths of my heart,
John Olsen

What to expect
I always make sure my listeners feel a connection to the selections of music chosen for each event. It is important to me that the organizer and those in charge are able to see me arrive before the guests in order to spend a few brief moments together. This is vital to the relaxation of their minds because when they know they do not have to worry about the hired musician, are set at ease and free to focus on the many other issues, those brief moments of acquaintance and confirmation of timing, and the expectations are not a courtesy, they are a professional aspect which they have paid for. One must never look at any venue as a gig. These are special people who have honored me to share in their special time.
About
John Olsen — "Virtuoso Violinist"
John Olsen is a concert violinist whose artistry reflects an uncommon confluence of lineage, discipline, and cultivated tonal refinement. Raised within a rigorously musical household—his father a choir director and his mother a pianist—Olsen’s formative years were defined by continuous immersion in structured musicianship, reinforced through deliberate relocations undertaken to secure increasingly elevated instruction.
His early trajectory was decisively influenced by Michael Sedloff, whose professional command of the string tradition catalyzed Olsen’s devotion to the violin. This foundation evolved into advanced study under Thomas Tsaggaris, a pedagogical descendant of Louis Persinger, and was further refined through work with a distinguished lineage of internationally recognized artists and pedagogues, including Ruggiero Ricci, Eugene Fodor, Vadim Repin, David Cerone, Elmar Oliveira, and Sergiu Schwartz. His interpretive and analytical depth was further shaped through exposure to figures such as Vladimir Ashkenazy and Leon Lazarev.
Olsen has been selected as a guest artist in master classes for many of the preeminent violinists of the modern era, including Itzhak Perlman, Hilary Hahn, Leila Josefowicz, Shlomo Mintz, Janine Jansen, Ray Chen, and Sarah Chang—a distinction indicative of both technical command and interpretive credibility at the highest level.
His academic formation includes distinction as first in his class at the Palm Beach County School of the Arts, followed by advanced studies at the Cleveland Institute of Music, Stetson University, and the Prague Conservatory. During his period of study in California under Eugene Fodor, Olsen also served as a violinist with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, further solidifying his orchestral and ensemble credentials within a major professional context.
Olsen’s honors include prize distinctions in international violin competitions throughout the United States and Europe, in addition to recognition from the National Endowment for the Arts and the National Foundation for the Advancement of the Arts. These accolades underscore a career defined not merely by participation, but by competitive and artistic distinction.
His discography reflects both virtuosity and intellectual breadth. In 2025, Olsen released a recording of the Violin Concerto in D major, Op. 61 in collaboration with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, a work demanding exceptional architectural control and tonal poise. Complementing this is an earlier album devoted to the virtuoso showpieces of Henryk Wieniawski and Pablo de Sarasate, repertoire emblematic of both technical brilliance and stylistic finesse.
Central to Olsen’s artistic identity is the singular quality of his sound. His playing is characterized by a rare equilibrium between power and suppleness, producing a tonal spectrum of unusual depth, projection, and luminosity. This is further enhanced by the exceptional instruments he commands: a historic Guarneri del Gesù violin—bestowed through the patronage of Ruggiero Ricci and Thomas Tsaggaris—and, for travel, a modern instrument by Samuel Zygmuntowicz, widely regarded among the foremost luthiers of the present era and crafted during a seminal period following commissions associated with Isaac Stern.
Olsen’s artistry occupies a distinctive position within the contemporary violin landscape—defined by a synthesis of lineage, interpretive authority, and a tonal aesthetic that aspires not merely to excellence, but to singularity.
Additional booking notes
I never place demands or requests that cost extra work for my friends at their events. I come energetic, sociable, and dressed / groomed just as I would on a stage before thousands. My equipment and necessities are always precisely planned out by using decades of a skill to listen carefully to their ideas and expectations. I then use my compassion to make for certain that my presence and performance consistently scans the atmosphere. One should always use skilled connection to choose the appropriate times to choose when to be in rhythm with the level of attention to place as focal timing and when to fall back and let the guests , bride, groom, etc have the entire spotlight. It is key to comprehend that you can offer your showmanship when timed right. But never forget you are to be a blessing to the special event and not the focus of said event.

Influences and inspiration
Being taught by so many different ethnic backgrounds from my teachers, as well as the exposure I have been blessed to have from so many worldwide cultures has introduced and instilled within me, amazing viewpoints, social varieties of relational traditions and more. It's a great background of real world training that serves to quickly adapt and establish boundaries that are always set before they are known. The key is becoming observant and using your ears before your voice!
