Ever since I was a child I loved photography. I remember keeping the disposable cameras with no film just so I could hear the "click" of my imaginary picture. Now that I'm older, I've moved out of the Midwest to the tropical U.S Virgin Islands, a place of culture, nature, and community. I love to capture the energy and lifestyle of our beautiful home, and it shows in my photography. I am meticulous, persistent, and willing to take the extra time to get that perfect shot. I have experience shooting all types events from weddings, parties, excursions, and family outings. My Story
It was a early October morning in Newport, Rhode Island and I was up early taking my child (aka my dog) on our routine walk. It was raining outside so there wasn't much photography to be had, as I'd usually be bringing my camera equipment with me to catch some foliage. After about 5 minutes of walking, I was cold, wet, and I thought to myself "I'm not doing this tomorrow." went home, bought a plane ticket, and moved to more tropical waters in the Virgin Islands.
I knew absolutely nothing about the Virgin Islands when I moved here. Not a single thing. I thought Kmart went out of business a LONG time ago, I thought cisterns were illegal (not here), I thought there would be wild monkeys or something and I thought that my first electric bill was a typo - it was that bad. I moved into my first apartment near Garden Street, unpacked my dog, camera equipment, and I was ready to go. I set off immediately with the intent of networking with local photographers and getting more information on the local industry, and quickly realized that there was no local Professional Photographers Association. I went home that same day and got to work, creating what is today the U.S Virgin Islands first PPA.
I do a lot of free commercial and charity event work around St. Thomas nowadays. I'm very passionate and dedicated to the photography industry and our local community. In a place where "nothing is free", I aim to prove otherwise by offering some of my services to local businesses and non-profits free of charge . I also offer free digital downloads of my photography from around the U.S.V.I. I help my father run a beautiful eco-lodge on the tiny rock of Water Island, attempting to integrate my knowledge of sustainable agriculture into the property and eventually open a community garden. I'm a very progressive, creative, entrepreneurial individual, who will always choose planting seeds of development over making a couple more dollars.
My Work
I am available to shoot everything from personal events such as parties, family reunions, and Caribbean excursions as well as commercial events of just about any type. I'm a perfectionist when it comes to my work. I'll sit in the same spot for hours if that's what it takes for the lighting to be "juuuussst right". I wake up at 6 am and begin post processing, I stay up until past midnight finishing photo processing. I'm reliable, consistent, and dependable. Best of all, I'm a super down to earth guy and I'm very easy to work with. You want results? I'll give them to you.
Hurricane Season
On September 7th, 2017 the Caribbean was ravaged by the devastating Category 5 Hurricane Irma. Unfortunately the place I call home on Water Island was hit dead-on, and we were left without communication, a means to travel to St. Thomas for supplies, or electricity. We fared better than most, some of which were left homeless and without food or water entirely. We lived off of generators, spending our days picking up our tiny island with our neighbors, unsure of the happenings in society. After throwing out massive quantities of spoiled food due to the inconsistently cooled refrigerator, FEMA finally brought some much needed supplies to our forgotten little island. Just as we were beginning to make progress, about 10 days later, we were hit by Maria. The flooding of this second CAT 5 hurricane was unprecedented, and at this point, the towel was thrown. While there was much money to be made with photography and videography at the time, I refused to sell photos / videos of my neighbors demolished homes and destroyed communities to NBC.
Relocation
Due to my desire to continue pursuing my passion, I have relocated to the city of Burlington in the beautiful state of Vermont. I'm continuing to offer my free services when I can, and hope to make a positive impact in my community. I will be doing some new website construction and plan to begin building a more local portfolio. It has been a rough journey, but after a month of living off rations and attempting to rebuild my life, I am finally safe in a new place I call home.
Please note whether shots will be indoor or outdoor, along with the anticipated level of lighting so I can bring the appropriate equipment along with me. Thank you!
I will provide equipment unless otherwise specified
