Overview

Hi, I’m Marcel — cellist and founder of Velveteen Ensemble | Curated by Marcel. Since 2014, we’ve performed at over 1, 000 weddings and events worldwide. What sets us apart isn’t just the music, but the process: I consult with you, anticipate every detail, and ensure the music flows seamlessly so nothing is left to chance. Featured in Vogue Weddings and Carats & Cake, our most popular option is string quartet, but our roster spans soloists, duos, orchestras, and DJ collaborations. With us, you’re not just booking musicians — you’re investing in peace of mind.

Outstanding — exceeded all expectations (and any competitors

Marcel and team via velveteen ensemble were absolutely a highlight to our wedding

When I get all of those special flashbacks in the days past the event - it’s always accompanied by the memory of the music played and the energy that they lead

Every rendition was killer and our ceremony songs were absolutely on point for the mood we were going for (better than imagined)

Wanted to callout specifically - when we requested special songs: those played by this crew were actually FAR BETTER than those by the prominent vitamin string quartet(that we used for reference)

Our guests specifically mentioned how amazing this team was and the later the evening got (and more drinks they had) the more they emphasized and repeated how awesome and exciting it was.

We couldn’t have asked for a better accompaniment to our memories and special day.

Thank you so much.

What to expect

When you book Velvet Music Events | Curated by Marcel, you’re not just hiring musicians — you’re bringing on a team that’s been trusted with over 1,000 weddings, galas, and luxury events since 2014.
Our process starts with a conversation. I’ll personally guide you through the options — from solo cello to string quartets, trios, and even DJ collaborations — to determine the perfect fit for your vision, venue, and style. Every musician is hand-selected, not pulled from a random network, so you can trust that your ensemble will not only sound exceptional, but also carry the professionalism and presence worthy of your celebration.
We’ll confirm all details in advance, including timing, repertoire, and any special requests, so there are no surprises on the day. For weddings, we’ll work with you to plan music for every key moment — from the processional to the recessional — and provide guidance to ensure everything flows seamlessly.
On the day of your event, our musicians arrive early, coordinate with your planner, DJ, or venue, and set up quietly and professionally. We’re adaptable: whether the setting is a cathedral, a garden with no power, or a ballroom with staging and lighting, we come prepared with solutions so you can relax knowing every detail is covered.
After the event, our goal is that you’ll remember not just the music, but the feeling it created — the way it amplified the most important moments of your day. That’s the standard we bring to every performance.

About

Hi, I’m Marcel — a professional cellist and the founder of Velvet Music Events. In 2014, I created Velveteen Ensemble with one goal: to transform live event music into something more than background sound. Since then, we’ve performed at over 1,000 weddings, galas, and celebrations across the U.S. and internationally, including features in Vogue Weddings and Carats & Cake.
What makes us different is our curated process. Many companies simply book whoever is available — but every Velveteen Ensemble performance is hand-selected by me. I personally match the right musicians and repertoire to each event, ensuring that no detail is left to chance. You’re not just hiring a group; you’re investing in expertise built over a decade of live performance, planning, and collaboration with top planners, DJs, and venues.
Our most requested group is the string quartet, known for its timeless elegance, but we also offer solos, trios, and hybrid experiences with DJs and live musicians for high-energy parties. Whatever the format, the goal is always the same: creating unforgettable moments where music amplifies the emotion of the occasion.
Clients choose us not only for the music, but for the peace of mind that comes with knowing everything will flow seamlessly. From the first call to the final note, we guide you through the process with care, professionalism, and artistry.

Additional booking notes

We provide flexible setups designed to fit a variety of venues, from intimate ceremonies to large-scale galas.
Sound & Amplification:
Our ensembles can perform acoustically in smaller settings, but for larger audiences or outdoor venues we offer full amplification options. We work directly with professional sound engineers and can supply or coordinate PA systems, wireless microphones, and amplification tailored to your event.
Lighting & Staging:
While our performances often require minimal staging, we have a trusted network of partners who specialize in event lighting, staging, and advanced AV setups. We are happy to make recommendations or coordinate with your existing vendors to ensure a seamless experience.
Space Requirements:
A string quartet typically requires an area of approx. 8’x10’, with armless chairs provided by the venue. Duos or trios can accommodate smaller spaces, while larger ensembles or hybrid performances may require additional staging.
Power Needs & Redundancy:
Most venues provide standard grounded outlets, which are sufficient for amplified performances. However, if a venue lacks power access or unexpected issues arise, we have backup systems in place. After more than a decade in this industry, we know that redundancy and Plan B are essential—and we’re prepared to adapt quickly so your event flows seamlessly, no matter the circumstances.
Collaboration:
We frequently collaborate with DJs, planners, and production teams. Our process includes pre-event coordination to ensure smooth integration with your timeline, cues, and other vendors.
Our goal is to take the technical stress off your plate so you can focus on enjoying the celebration. From the simplest acoustic ceremony to a fully produced gala with lighting, staging, and live DJ collaborations, we ensure every detail is handled with professionalism and care.

Set list

Every event is unique, and we fully customize our repertoire to fit your vision, but here’s what a typical wedding flow looks like:
Prelude (guest seating):
A mix of classical favorites (Bach, Mozart, Vivaldi) and softer pop ballads (A Thousand Years, Perfect, Can’t Help Falling in Love). This sets a warm and elegant tone as guests arrive.
Ceremony:
One piece for the groom/parents/bridal party (sometimes broken down into separate songs for each entrance).
A signature piece for the bride’s processional.
A joyful, upbeat recessional to close the ceremony.
Cocktail Hour:
Upbeat, modern selections drawn from pop, jazz, Motown, and film music. Clients typically choose 6–8 favorites, and we curate the rest to match the vibe of the room.
Our repertoire is wide, diverse, and always current — from timeless classical to today’s chart-toppers. And of course, we are happy to prepare special requests to make your event feel uniquely yours.

Setup requirements

Armless chairs for each musician (typically 2–4 depending on ensemble size).

Adequate lighting so musicians can clearly see their music.
