What to Expect
Viola is a versatile instrument! It can be performed "classical-style" without any amplification, using just the natural acoustic projection of the instrument, but it can also be amplified for a more modern presentation. Of course, the optimal choice depends on the atmosphere you wish to create and the size of the area you would like to reach with music.
Amplifying the viola has another bonus: it opens up the option for live backing tracks created on-the-fly with a special Loop Pedal. Listen to "Bated Breath" in the audio section for an example of this performance with live backing tracks.
Every performance is different, mixing just the right amount of classical and traditional repertoire to contrast with upbeat interpretations of modern pop songs. Thomas is a rare and versatile performer with over a decade of experience playing special events at the highest level.
Thomas Beckman is a founding member of the instrumental band Sons of Granville and he's the composer-in-chief with the Artists for Conservation, the world's leading artist group supporting the environment.
Additional Booking Notes
Thomas requires very little in order to get up and running for a performance.
Often times, just the viola case will do, while on some occasions it will be preferable to amplify the sound with his portable speaker - no power required!
For more elaborate events with many moving parts, logistical challenges and multiple vendors, we'll discuss the exact technical details on a event-by-event basis.
