Umer Piracha
Overview
Umer Piracha is a NYC-based vocalist and artist rooted in the centuries-old Sufi Qawwali tradition of South Asia. Trained in the Saami Qawwali lineage, he has performed at Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, Grace Cathedral, Harvard Divinity School, and St. John the Divine.
Performances range from solo voice with harmonium, tanpura, or desert-blues electric guitar to duo, trio, and full ensemble formats. Programs can be powerful, meditative, ecstatic, or quietly absorbing, and are tailored for cultural events, museums, universities, private gatherings, weddings and ceremonies, conferences, and other settings seeking something beyond conventional background entertainment.
