Tonewood Stringband makes music that touches on the roots of traditional bluegrass and ventures into the heady worlds of newgrass, jazz, funk, and jam. With a sound reminiscent of the Wood Brothers and Devil Makes Three, Tonewood Stringband's soulful songs touch on the classic themes of love, heartbreak, loss, faith, and hardship in a thoughtful and wholly original way and explore the simple joys and gritty darkness that life has to offer. May 15, 2023Tonewood played at our annual mini camping/music festival on our property and everyone loved it! They were so easy to work with and are very talented musicians. Highly recommend if you are looking for a great Bluegrass band that are great through the whole process and really fun to listen and dance to!

May 7, 2023This band is amazing. We booked them for our annual school fundraiser and they delivered. Their performance was fantastic, but equally important (to an event organizer) was how easy they are to work with. Everything - from response time, to clarity of communication, to showing up early and being self-sufficient and flexible in their set up - was top notch and much appreciated. I would definitely love to hire them again!

September 28, 2022Tonewood Stringband was the perfect group for our festival last weekend. They were extremely easy to work with leading up to the event, and played an energy-packed 4 hour set. I can't recommend this group enough. Hoping to have them back next year!

August 28, 2022This band was amazing! They arrived early for set up and had all the equipment and talent needed for a top notch, amazing experience for our backyard wedding celebration. Everyone raved about the entire experience. They accommodated our request for primarily Grateful Dead songs while mixing it up with other authentic bluegrass entertainment. They were interactive with our crowd and brought positive energy and humor to the night. They closed the evening with an original song that was one of the best of the evening. You can tell they are a tight knit group that plays and harmonizes well together. We cannot say enough great things about Tonewood Stringband!

Tonewood mostly plays original music but often enjoys a good cover, and can take requests for certain events. The band can also provide PA and Sound equipment as needed for private events.
Tonewood String Band is an original psychedelic bluegrass band based in Denver, CO. Founded in 2021, Tonewood emphasizes heartfelt original songwriting, powerful vocal harmonies, and heady instrumental jams over a driving progressive bluegrass backbone. The group consists of George Sepmeier (Violin, Mandolin), Evan Shely (Guitar), Elijah Donovan (Banjo), Matt Thomas (Upright Bass) and Steve Lisi (Percussion). They’ve shared stages with notable local and national acts including The Fretliners, Chicken Wire Empire, and Liver Down the River among many others. Tonewood is charting new sonic territory this year with plans to record new original songs and performances at notable events including Tico Time Bluegrass Festival and Palisade Bluegrass & Roots Festival.
Tonewood requires adequate power for all equipment and stage must be able to accommodate a 5-piece band.
