Overview

I’m a sax player One Man Band. I perform with, not karaoke songs but custom backing tracks. What’s a backing track? It’s a full band recording including space for my sax and piano solos and of course my vocals. My recordings also feature top Minneapolis musicians with hot solos and great rhythm chops.

Some of the songs…

A Whiter Shade of Pale
(Procol Harum 1967)

Be Bop A Lula
(Gene Vincent 1956)

Dancing in the Streets
(Martha / Vandellas 1964)

Good Rockin’ Daddy
(Etta James 1955)

Happy
(Pharrell Williams 2013)

Little Bitty Pretty One
(Frankie Lyman 1957)

Knock on Wood
(Eddie Floyd 1966)

Rip it Up
(Little Richard 1957)

I Can’t Help Myself
(The Four Tops 1965)

… and more

Tom Burnevik's TomTyme references

Tom was awesome. He got the whole room involved. We received so many questions from our guests as to where we found him and comments that he was so good.
-Don C.

He was exactly what we were looking for. It was a 40th birthday party his music was great. He was also very accommodating with children and was able to get them involved in the fun. I had numerous compliments from our guest about his talent.
-Carla N.

Tom was outstanding. He made our celebration into a fun filled evening with his marvelous talent. Everyone was dancing because he chose the music that fit our crowd. We are so excited that we found him, and highly recommend him to anyone who wants to have a great time. He mingled with crowd playing his great sounding sax, and invited guests to a sing along. Besides being very personable, his skills as a musician are unmatched. If we have another party, Tom will be our first choice. Thanks Tom
-John S.

He was great! He had the crowd up on their feet and participating, it was really fun party because of him. He was an amazing "one-man-band" - really amazing!
-Patti N.

Tom showed up early--set up, was super professional and very talented. We loved having him at our party and would love to have him again. His music is wonderful. Big thumbs up!
-Katie Z.

Tom arrived early and was very flexible upon arrival since the music and dinner were to be outdoors but were shifted indoors due to weather. He was set up well ahead of the wedding and we all loved his music as it is very contagious and got people dancing and having a wonderful time. We would recommend Tom for any event where you really want to party.
-Bill K.

Thank You . Your time and talent made our event a success. D.L.
-Denise L.

Our theme for our wedding reception was an "Elegant Barn Party" and we wanted everything to be unique and an experience our guest would remember. We had over 200 guests, of which most had extremely different backgrounds and diverse music tastes. Tom's quality and style of music provided entertainment that pleased all ages. Throughout the reception, and still today, I am hearing compliments about the band and inquiries on how we found them. Tom was extremely easy to work with and efficient in providing needed information. His sense of humor and thorough preparation allowed for a stress free experience. I highly recommend him!

Great talent, great showman!

About

Born in Minneapolis, Minnesota in 1954 Tom Burnevik started playing in a horn band at age 16 doing Chicago, Blood Sweat & Tears and Santana style songs.

At age 19 Tom spent time in Chicago sitting in with blues bands and when back in Minneapolis, local blues bands at all the music venues.

Soon he was offered a job with the Lamont Cranston blues band and recorded on 3 albums. After years with LC, Tom started his own 9 piece jump blues band called The Bees Knees performing at colleges, bars and private events.

When he retired The Bees Knees, he joined an 80’s rock band called The Suburbs. He recorded on multiple albums and toured cross country playing LA, NY and every thing in between.

He’s also played and or recorded with many other Minneapolis bands including Soul Asylum recorded at Paisley Park, Prince’s studio.

Now Tom Burnevik’s TomTyme performs Classic Soul and R&B as a One Man Band, songs he’s loved his entire life!

Influences and inspiration

I'm a sax player, vocalist and I also play some piano and harmonica. I’m performing old Soul and R&B tunes from greats like Ray Charles, Otis Redding, Wilson Pickett, Jr. Walker and the All Stars, Little Richard, Etta James, The Four Tops and more.

I've always admired Bobby Keys soulful rock the house playing style. He played with the Rolling Stones. Honkin' and Screamin' sax players like Red Prysock and Big Jay McNeely have also been a great influence on my playing.

Thanks, Tom Burnevik
