What a Wonderful World

Overview

Playing jazz standards made famous by the likes of great trumpet players (e.g., Dizzy Gillespie, Miles Davis, Freddie Hubbard, Louis Armstrong, etc.) as well as a few originals. Featuring Tim on trumpet, Robin on keys, Robert on bass, and David on drums. Great for receptions, corporate gigs, and private parties.

Professional, friendly, delightful music

Tim communicated extremely well, adjusted his start time twice, showed up early, and tailored his music and sound level to accommodate our event. I highly recommend this band.

What to expect

The Quartet typically performs acoustically, meaning we don't usually need a sound system. However, the keyboardist and bassist have amplifiers and the keyboard is electric, so we do need a little electricity. We can bring a sound system, if the venue warrants it.

The band is typically just four people, although we commonly have guest sit in with us in public events. Tim plays trumpet and flugelhorn. Robin plays an electric keyboard. Robert plays an upright and electric bass. David plays a drum set.

About

The Tim Hughes Quartet is a varied group of accomplished musicians from East Tennessee focusing on popular jazz standards from the different eras of the American born genre. Founded in 2008, the group typically includes a bassist, a drummer, a guitarist or keyboardist, and occasionally, a guest soloist; each one bringing their own musical vocabulary to the improvisational setting. Consequently, each performance is different, each performance is unique.

With a horn player as a front man, the group tends to focus on songs made popular by trumpeters of years past, such as Louis Armstrong, Miles Davis, Freddie Hubbard, and Dizzy Gillespie. And when he picks up his flugelhorn, Tim can channel Chuck Mangione to perfection. With a solid rhythm section, the group is versatile enough to perform any type of jazz. Whether it be bebop or big band, cool or Latin, mainstream or modal, progressive or traditional, the Tim Hughes Quartet has it covered.

Additional booking notes

We typically play acoustically, but need electricity for a keyboard and amp and a bass amp. One circuit is usually enough. Stage plot can be provided.
