Overview

I perform covers of popular tunes, as well as my own originals. My style falls under: Americana, Country, Alt. Country, and Folk. I can also perform as a duo with another guitarist, or a full band. I’ve been performing for 20+ years, so you can rest easy and know that I will show up on time, and prepared to jam out for your gathering!

Jason is awesome!

We booked Jason for a family gathering for Mother’s Day and he was awesome! We loved his sound and he was very accommodating with requests. Highly recommend.

Awesome Hire

We hired Jason for a house warming party and he was great all around! Was very professional from the beginning, easy to communicate with and most importantly is an excellent musician. Would certainly hire him again.

About

Having grown up in Houston, TX, Jason Whitton absorbed a lot of Country music influences, like George Strait and Willie Nelson. Later, he would fall in love with folk and singer-songwriters like Tom Waits, James Taylor, and Simon and Garfunkel. On his debut release, Thriftstore Cowboy, a lot of those influences can be heard, as Whitton weaved seamlessly in and out of those styles. For his second release, Broken Horses, he leaned more towards his folk influences, but still put some twang on tracks like, Last Man Falling, which ended up on the soundtrack to Grantham & Rose, starring a before-she-was-famous Tessa Thompson, and directed by the Tony nominated Kristin Hanggi. In 2016, Whitton released his most ambitious record yet, Honey Butter, which he co-produced with Brian Starley of Bergatron Music. With songs like the title track, Honey Butter and the made-for-country-radio cut, Tearin’ It Up, he was able to open up for Jennifer Nettles on her solo tour. His latest single, Time Runs, was written about his wife, and deals with the concept of love in the afterlife.
