What to expect
Rockin' and Roarin' is the definitive history of The Tokens and their musical accomplishments throughout the 1960s and 1970s. Although known for "The Lion Sleeps Tonight," The Tokens were responsible for producing some of the decades greatest hits. The show presents anecdotes accompanied by a nostalgic slide deck that treat the audience to the breadth of The Tokens career, performing the wonderful melodies and amazing harmonies that earned them multiple gold records.
About
Throughout the sixties The Tokens were responsible for some of music's most well known songs. Besides the worldwide sensation, "The Lion Sleeps Tonight,” they also wrote and recorded the gold records "Tonight I Fell in Love,” and "I Hear Trumpets Blow.”
Successfully transitioning to the other side of the recording booth, The Tokens produced hits for The Chiffons (He's So Fine & One Fine Day), The Happenings (See You In September & I Got Rhythm), Randy & The Rainbows (Denise) and Tony Orlando & Dawn (Candida, Knock Three Times & Tie A Yellow Ribbon).
Did you know that The Tokens were also the first vocal group to play their own instrument tracks for recording sessions?
In 1998 The Tokens became the first and only group to sing the National Anthem at all major league ballparks in one season. This accomplishment landed them into the Guinness Book of World Records. They have been inducted into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame and the Long Island Music Hall of Fame.
Original members Phil and Mitch Margo have since passed. Phil’s son Noah, who toured with the group for thirty years, felt it paramount to continue celebrating the great music created by his father and his uncle. With this new configuration Noah and his son Solomon honor their legacy while keeping it in the family.
