Overview

Three guys and the occasional guest having a blast offering soulful renditions of some of the greatest rock music of all time. Strong instrumentation and harmonies are signature features of the band as they cover songs made famous by Van Morrison, Train, Jack Johnson, Tom Petty, Joe Cocker, The Eagles, Al Greene, Bill Withers and many more. We can be out front or just set the atmosphere for your gathering. We've played everywhere from living rooms to festivals. We enjoy working with client as much or as little as they desire. If you want to pick the songs from our catalog, be our guest! You want us to help with announcements and MC duties, bring it on!

What to expect

We can offer a flexible set up and playlist. We focus on soulful rock. Think Bill Withers, Joe Cocker, Amos Lee, James Taylor, Allman Bros. etc. We work with event planners to try and provide background music or center of attention interaction. We understand we are there to make the atmosphere better for all the folks that showed up. We try to honor requests from the audience as best we can. We arrive early enough to be ready to start on time and we clean up our mess when we're done.

We can provide some MC services such as calling out raffle winners, etc. and interact well with the crowd, but are just as happy to "shut up and play" and provide great live background music for your guests.

About

The Schoolboys have been creating soulful covers of southern rock, blues, Motown and more for nearly twenty years. They now pack it all into The Schoolboys Trio. The Trio is highly adaptable for a full drum kit, electric guitar power trio or a mellower acoustic vibe with percussion replacing the drums for lower volume and smaller venues. The trio features Bill Bolduc on electric and acoustic guitars and vocals, James Hunt on drums, percussion, and vocals, and Rick Olsen on keys, harmonica and vocals.

We have enjoyed providing music for a variety of venues and events. We have rocked Reel Cafe for fundraisers, we've chilled with the folks at St. James. Squeeze into the corner for a "house party" at Cape Fear Museum . . . no problem! We're flexible and professional, just don't ask us to wear matching suits and we're good to go.

Influences and inspiration

We are influenced by a wide variety of musicians and bands as evidenced by our playlist, but the common thread is a soulful sensibility built around the groove, the lyric and the harmony. We enjoy older artists such as the Allman Bros., Doobie Bros., and Motown. We also enjoy newer artists that are in that same basic feel.

Setup requirements

We have our own musical instruments. We have a modest sound system that is suitable for small and midsize events. We have sufficient light to light the band but do not have special effects. Our sound system is built around a JBL Eon One with a Soundcra
