He was absolutely wonderful. He played several beautiful pieces on classical guitar, including some Baroque music, and then mixed in Latin American and Cuban songs and rhythms. The sound was spectacular, and everyone was really impressed. You could tell he is a very talented musician. The guests were in awe of his performance, and it made the event feel very special.

About
Juan Pablo began his formal musical education when he was age 11 at the Vocational School of Arts in Holguin, Cuba and is a graduate from the Conservatory of Music Jose Maria Ochoa also in Holguin. He earned his Bachelor of Music, graduating suma cum laude, from the lnstituto Superior de Artes/Higher Institute of Arts in Havana, Cuba and studied music analysis, harmony and music history at the Mozarteum University of Salzburg, Austria. Early in his career, Juan Pablo participated in musical tours in Europe and served as music director at El Fuerte Presbyterian Church in Cardenas, Cuba, he was also a music teacher and a musician, playing solo and with different other bands and chamber music groups.
Juan Pablo earned a special recognition from the Jury at the X Havana International Guitar Contest and Festival in May of 2000. He was also concertino and first guitar at the Sonantas Habaneras Guitar Orchestra for (phone number hidden)2. Since August 2018, he and his family have been residents of Lee County, he serves as a guitar and piano teacher at the Fort Myers School of Music, plays in different events in the area and works as worship band director at Covenant Presbyterian Church.

The repertoire includes works from the Spanish Renaissance by composers such as Alonso Mudarra, Luys de Narváez, and Luys de Milán, as well as Baroque music, including several arrangements and transcriptions of works by Johann Sebastian Bach originally written for lute, cello, and violin. The program also features music from the Classical period by composers such as Fernando Sor, Dionisio Aguado, Ferdinando Carulli, Matteo Carcassi, and Mauro Giuliani. Additional repertoire includes works by Francisco Tárrega, Miguel Llobet, Antonio Lauro, Agustín Barrios, Leo Brouwer, Antonio Ñico Rojas, Eduardo Martin, Carlos Fariñas among other contemporary composers, alongside original arrangements of Latin American songs created by the performer.

This guitarist’s artistic voice is shaped by a rich blend of classical tradition, Cuban musical heritage, and international performance experience. Influences may include the expressiveness and technical mastery of the classical guitar repertoire, the rhythmic vitality and storytelling of traditional Cuban genres like son, bolero, danzón, trova... and the interpretive experience gained through chamber music, orchestral collaboration, and solo performance.
