The Nathan Hughes Project
Overview
Guitar-Driven Soul & 70s Vibes — Perfect for Day Time Gigs
Laid-back grooves with just enough fire. I play feel-good, guitar-driven soul and 70s classics from Hendrix, Allman Brothers, ZZ Top, Bob Marley, Bill Withers, and more. It’s easy-sipping music that works great for breweries and patios—engaging without killing conversation. Unlike typical solo acts, I deliver the feel of a power trio in a small footprint, with real groove and expressive lead guitar. I read the room well, keeping it mellow for afternoon crowds or turning it up slightly when the vibe calls for it. Available solo, duo, or trio.

What to expect
Nathan is a local player who shows up with a guitar, a mic, and a setlist built around groove-heavy Southern rock, classic rock, soul, funk, reggae, and Latin-influenced jams — the kind of head-nodding stuff associated with artists like The Allman Brothers Band, ZZ Top, Bill Withers, Bob Marley, and Carlos Santana, depending on what the night calls for. He has been gigging around Charlotte for years, from patios and breweries to smaller rooms that want live music without turning the volume into a problem.
That is the whole pitch: he can hold a room when you want energy, or sit back and play so quiet nobody has to raise their voice. A packed taproom on a Friday is a different job than a wine bar on a Tuesday, and he treats them that way.
Right now he books solo, duo, and trio gigs.
About
Since relocating to Charlotte in 2009, I quickly became part of the local music scene, holding two weekly house band residencies in the University area and performing regularly at bike nights for one of Charlotte’s well-known barbecue chains across multiple locations.
After stepping away from full-time gigging for several years to focus on family, I’m now back and fully available to perform, with the flexibility to cover solo, duo, or three-piece setups depending on the event.
I bring a high level of professionalism and reliability to every performance, along with a drama-free, sober lifestyle (since 2008). Whether you’re looking for low-volume background music that enhances the atmosphere or a more engaging, crowd-focused show, I’m able to deliver the right energy while keeping volume at a level that allows guests to comfortably connect and enjoy the experience.

Influences and inspiration
My musical style is rooted in timeless, groove-driven artists whose music creates an easy, feel-good atmosphere. Influences include players like Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, Carlos Santana, and Duane Allman, along with bands like The Allman Brothers Band and ZZ Top.
I also draw heavily from soul, blues, reggae, and funk—artists like Bill Withers, Bob Marley, B.B. King, and Muddy Waters, along with groove-based classics like “Chameleon” and Latin-infused styles that bring a smooth, rhythmic feel to the set.
My approach to covers is simple: choose songs people recognize, feel comfortable with, and naturally respond to—the kind of music that gets people nodding their heads without taking over the room. Whether the goal is a relaxed background atmosphere or a more engaging performance, the focus is always on creating the right vibe for the event and keeping guests connected and at ease.
