The Messy Cookers Jazz and Brass Band provides fun and upbeat traditional New Orleans style jazz for any type of event! The band helps create a true New Orleans experience, and can put any size group together, from a small duo or trio for background music at a corporate function or a wedding ceremony, to a full seven piece band to get people out on the dance floor. We also put together 6-8 piece Brass Bands for Second Lines
Thank you so much for the wonderful music at our Welcome Reception and opening breakfast! Everyone loved having a jazz band to help kick off our company's convention in New Orleans!
Response from Messy Cookers Jazz and Brass Band:
Thank you Emily! We had a great time playing for you.
The jazz trio was perfect for my daughter's wedding. They played during the cocktail hour and provided the perfect backdrop. I would book them again without hesitation.
Response from Messy Cookers Jazz and Brass Band:
Thank you so much Jorge! We enjoyed playing for you.
Once again, the Messy Cookers Jazz and Brass Band delivered entertainment for our out of town guests that STILL have them talking about what an amazing time they had. There is not enough space here for me to describe how happy I am with everyone they have ever sent to our events. I wouldn't go anywhere else for entertainment.
The band was on time, courteous, and most importantly sounded fantastic. They were an integral part of a great evening.
Response from Messy Cookers Jazz and Brass Band:
Thank you Tom! We had a great time playing for you. Thank you again for having us.

We hired the messy cookers to entertain at our company holiday party and they were awesome! They played exactly what we wanted and everyone loved them. Highly recommend.
Response from Messy Cookers Jazz and Brass Band:
Thank You Kristen!
We booked the Messy Cookers Jazz Band for our wedding on 9/28/2018. Our families were all flying in to New Orleans, so we wanted a Jazz Band to give them a more "New Orleans" experience. The Messy Cookers were absolutely perfect; maybe the best decision we made for our wedding! They played during our ceremony and reception, and all our guests told us they loved the band. The only thing we asked them to play was La Vie en Rose for our first dance, and it was absolutely lovely. During the ceremony, they played What a Wonderful World when my wife walked down the aisle and it was magical. Also, Alex was super responsive throughout the whole process. I can't recommend the Messy Cookers enough; I would definitely book them again.
Response from Messy Cookers Jazz and Brass Band:
Thank you Marco! We had a wonderful time playing for you.
And professional. Look forward to more gigs from this band.
Response from Messy Cookers Jazz and Brass Band:
Thank you so much Joel! We enjoyed playing for you.
The Messy Cookers made our corporate event a night to remember. The group was timely, friendly, professional, and courteous throughout. Most importantly, they are superb musicians. They provided us with an experienced quartet comprising a stand up bass, clarinet, trumpet and guitar. We strongly recommend this group to anyone looking for a lively New Orleans-style jazz ban to play background music for an evening corporate function.
Response from Messy Cookers Jazz and Brass Band:
Thank you for the nice review Nick! We enjoyed playing for you and hope we can do it again in the future!
The Messy Cookers have played several events for me and they have always been professional, on time and an overall pleasure to deal with. My clients loved the band and the atmosphere they provide.
I have even referred them to one of my brides looking for a Jazz band for their wedding which said they were Amazing!
We wanted a jazz trio for our New Orleans wedding and we were so lucky to attend the Abita Opry the night the Messy Cookers were there! As soon as the Messy Cookers (a bigger version of the band) hit the Abita Opry stage that night, we knew they were something special. After seeing their dynamic set, we weren't sure if they would do our 'very small' wedding of 60 people. I contacted Alex, and he was super accommodating and formed a smaller version of the Messy Cookers for our wedding - they were absolutely perfect. We set the band outside, but when the night got chilly and most of the guests were inside, Alex took the initiative and asked me if I would like the band to move inside. Yes!! The party moved inside and we danced the night away!
Response from Messy Cookers Jazz and Brass Band:
Thanks for the kind words Kristine! We sure enjoyed playing for your wedding.
The Messy Cookers Jazz and Brass Band are top notch musicians. I've hired them for many events, and each time, they're professional with an amazing traditional New Orleans sound. I try and book them whenever I can and refer them to everyone I know! Great job, guys!
Response from Messy Cookers Jazz and Brass Band:

The band can play background music for a cocktail hour, corporate function, or can provide upbeat jazz music to get people on the dance floor. The band is flexible not only in size, but also instrumentation. We can function not only jazz group, but also as a brass band. For second lines, we can also take care of the permits, city administration fees, and provide handkerchiefs and umbrellas for the client and their guests.
The Messy Cookers Jazz Band was founded in 2012 by Alex Owen, a trumpet player who was looking for an outlet to play traditional jazz in New Orleans. In forming the band, Alex rounded up some of the finest musicians he could find, and began to find work with his band. By the spring of 2013, they were working regularly at the Maison on Frenchmen street, and at other venues throughout the city.
In August of 2013, the band recorded their first CD “Swing that Music”, and in July of 2015, the band recorded their second CD "That's my Home". The newest CD features some of the best musicians in the traditional jazz circuit in New Orleans, including Steve Pistorius, James Evans, Albanie Falletta, John Eubanks, Andy Reid, and Benny Amon. The CD was reviewed by Michael Steinman in his well-known blog "Jazz Lives", and by Jonny Holiday of the Vintage Swing Review. In 2017, the band was selected to perform at the French Quarter Festival.
The Messy Cookers play regularly throughout the New Orleans area, and have traveled regionally to Shreveport, LA, Rosemary Beach, FL, Natchez, MS, Auburn, AL and Mobile, Al. The Band plays great New Orleans jazz for any type of event, and can play as duo, trio, quartet, five-piece, six-piece Band, or even 7-piece Band. The Messy Cookers also perform second lines, and can put together a 6,7, or 8-piece Brass Band to get you and your party dancing in the streets!
We provide our own microphones, amplifiers, and PA system.
