The Jolly Tars -Ken private event

Ken was quick to respond and enthusiastically helped us surprise and entertain my father for his 75th birthday. The guests were invited to participate and were actively engaged with both the music and the historical context of the songs! Highly recommend!

The Jolly Tars

Working with Miranda and the Ganly's crew was a terrific experience.. They were accommodating, attentive and helpful. This was our first experience with Ganly's and their entire operation impressed us tremendously, from their great attention to detail to their delicious food and wonderful pub ambiance. Ganly's definitely stands head and shoulders above other pubs we have experienced.

Good Music

One of the highlights at the Lehigh Valley civil war event every year was listening to the Jolly Tars (and guest friends) in concert. One year my youngest son was with me and Ken asked his name. When my son gave his name Ken played a song just for him! Brendan's Fair Isle. My son still remembers that afternoon. These men know the words to so many songs and have a great stage presence.
Huzzah! To the Jolly Tars!

What to expect

The Jolly Tars transport audiences back in time with both their appearance and their sound. Attired as nineteenth century merchant seamen, Civil War sailors, Irish immigrant navvies or simply as contemporary folk performers, their claw hammer driven songs and tunes faithfully recreate the sound of young America. Their harmonious vocals and articulately delivered lyrics invite listeners into the heart of the music. If the situation allows, the "Tars" will engage the audience to participate in the songs, inviting them to ask questions, make comments and share observations.

About

Historical music comes alive with the Jolly Tars
Ken Purcell and Jake Laubach perform historical music of young America, the high seas and Ireland as the “Jolly Tars”, musically transporting audiences back to the nineteenth century in both sound and appearance. Their broad repertoire of historical songs pays tribute to the immigrant seamen, soldiers, miners, navvies and others who forged America. Accompanied by guitar, banjo, concertina, bouzouki, harmonica and assorted percussion, their rousing pub songs, melodious chanteys, and lively tunes have entertained audiences throughout the mid Atlantic region since 2012. The “Tars” have appeared at heritage fairs, maritime festivals, reenactments, museums, historical societies and pubs from coastal Connecticut to tidewater Virginia and look forward to entertaining at your event.
