The Hot Club of Bushwick
Overview
We turn a party into a swingin' hootenanny. Our music is hot jazz and is heavily inspired by the work of Django Reinhardt, western swing, and bebop.
Amos Rose's voice ranges from a cool breeze to full, soulful singing. Ellie Goodman's hot fiddle plays the perfect foil, with a swinging rhythm section that might include double bass, rhythm guitar, clarinet, mandolin, accordion, drumset, or piano. The versatile core of the group, Amos and Ellie, has played in numerous arrangements, including as a duo.
We've played at B.B. King's Blues Club and the New York Public Library to rave reviews, private parties, swing dances, and other venues around the city and the world.

November 20, 2018Wish we had more time to enjoy the music
HCOB was perfect - from the first contact to their desire to make our party a success. The musicians set-up and seemlessly melded into the setting. They were a perfect complement to the evening and were a pleasure to work with...
They asked what we wanted and met every expectation. They worked in tight quarters and created a backdrop for a wonderful evening. Flexible, professional and good musicians.
It was about as easy as it could get working with HCOB. Cheers!

What to expect
Hot, swinging', toe-tappin' jazz that everybody can enjoy. Amos Rose's vocals draw in the audience, while the band's collective groove keeps them hanging on, and before they know it, Ellie Goodman and Alec Spiegelman deliver a one-two punch to knock them out. The music is classy, simple, virtuosic, sweet, vintage, and exotic.
About
In late November 2013, several talented and busy busy musicians joined together to celebrate the music of Django Reinhardt, and began to play hot club swing and hot jazz. These included Alec Spiegelman, Amos Rose, Ellie Goodman, Matt Cross, and Ben Thomas. They have played in multiple arrangements but the core group includes two guitars, fiddle, an upright bass, and a clarinet, often appearing as a duo, trio, or quartet. In addition there are often vocals. The end result is hot and jazzy and often accompanied by a variety of swing dance styles.
In it's short life, the Hot Club of Bushwick has performed in some prestigious venues, including (link hidden)ng's Blues Club (as part of the Blue Note Jazz Festival 2014) and the New York Public Library, where they were called the "belles of the ball" at last years Holiday Open House. They'll be there again Dec. 7th 2014. It's a great opportunity to check the band out for free.
Additional booking notes
Ideally, equipment is provided. This implies a P.A. system and/or amplifiers for 2 acoustic guitars, violin, microphone, and bass. For larger spaces, an extra microphone for clarinet would also be required. We also have our own amplification equipment if necessary.
