What to Expect
My program is simple, one voice and one folk guitar, and I need one microphone. I bring a few puppets to engage interest, but largely draw on getting us all involved through singing and moving together, posing questions and group participation. I have a wide repertoire and can tailor a show for particular age, topic, and group size. Just let me know what you're looking for! My program is a mix of storytelling through songs and giving children a chance to sing and share their ideas too.
I am a mother and grandmother and spend part of the year in western Massachusetts (Amherst area) and part of the year in Florida (in New Smyrna Beach). After teaching preschool through 3rd Grade for over 30 years, where I collected and wrote many songs for many curriculum topics, I retired and became a full time children's musician. By joining the Children's Music Network, I met many of the artists who had written songs I had used in my classroom for years! By producing a CD and songbook, "Curious Songs for Curious Kids" and creating "The Curious Giraffe Show" through our local community tv station, I reached a wider audience. In 1999 I was Nationally Board Certified in Early Childhood Education. In 2017 "The Curious Giraffe Show" won first place in Children and Youth Programming in the Northeast for community access tv! My second CD of children's music "More Curious Songs" will be out by the end of the year!
I also host a once a month open mic, teach the Singing Giraffe Family Music Class, and am delighted to be out in the community at bookstores, fairs, birthday parties, and any events which build community through singing together. "Keep singing, keep looking up, keep asking questions and never give up!"
Additional Booking Notes
If the setting is outdoors or a large group, it is helpful to have a microphone and good sound system. If the setting is indoors and a smaller group, then no sound system is needed.
